Wayne Rooney was described as “outstanding” by his “other boss” Gareth Southgate, the England National Team Manager after the latter broke Manchester United’s all-time goalscoring record on Saturday. The match between Stoke City and Manchester United was thought to have been over until the 94th minute when Stoke committed a foul whch resulted in a free-kick being awarded to Manchester United. Captain Wayne Rooney stepped up to take the kick and in the manner of some of the greatest players in the world, artistically put the ball well beyond the wall and the reach of the struggling Stoke goal-keeper to score what can be described as a wonder goal.The goal was not just any another goal but a “face-saving” one for Manchester United more impotantly for Wayne Rooney personally, a record-breaking goal as it was enough to move him beyond Bobby Charlton onto 250 goals for the Old Trafford club.
