DR Congo secures a place in the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nation after thrashing Togo 3-1, while the defending champions were eliminated by Morocco in an enthralling encounter on Tuesday night.

The Democratic Republic of Congo showed genuine interest in winning the game in 16th minutes as Afcon leading goal scorer Junior Kabananga unleashed a powerful shot. enough to break down the Great wall of China but Togo defence seems more stronger to withhold such thunderous effort.

Togo failed to contain the mounting pressure from DR Congo and their silly errors in the midfield made them pay a steep price when Chancel Mbemba made a swift through-pass to Kabananga who then took no time to fired home to make it 1-0.

The second half rolled in on a high note with just 10 minutes after the start receiving a clear chance from Mensah poor clearance finds Marcel Tisserand, who then set-up a pass to Firmino Mubeleb to lob the ball over Togo goalkeeper to double their lead.

Togo's opportunity came in minutes later as they pull back a consolation goal in the 69th minute when Substitute Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba slotted in the ball to make it 2-1

DR Congo responded back in the 80th minutes to sealed their victory when Paul -Jose Poku fired home a free-kick just outside the box and finalising the game to 3-1, the Leopards will take on Group D runners-up in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast looked unsettled throughout the game as the North African side pressed the defending champions in the first few minutes while the Elephants were just wasting up their precious chances

The second half didn't seem to help Ivory Coast settle well int0 the game as a wonderful strike from Rachid Alioui put Morocco ahead in the 70th minutes, things descended into pushing and shoving as the defending champions stuck in a rut.

Rachid Alioui's long-range shot was just enough to eliminate Ivory Coast and continued the bad re-occurrence of Afcon champions unable to defend their title in the last four tournaments, or not making it to the tournament.
Nigeria as a case study didn't qualify in 2015, while Egypt winners of the 2010 African Cup of Nations failed to qualify in 2013, Chipolopolo went out without winning a game in 2013 and now the Elephants also failed to win a single match.

DR Congo and Morocco’s quarter-final opponents will be decided on Wednesday as They join Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, and Ghana in the knockout stages.
