EPISODE 17

“ You ever considered a career in acting because your skills are off the chain” Daniel laughed as he tugged tomiwa’s hair playfully.
“Hey, ease off” she pouted, swatting his hand away. “Thanks for the complement anyway but you guys took too long. Any moment longer and I would have been dinner” she frowned.
“But the plan was a success anyway.” Annabelle retorted. She pulled Chris up by the collar and held his hands behind him. Not that he could put up a fight anyway, the wooden stakes still embedded in his body had neutralized him.
“Count yourself lucky that we need you right now” She turned to chris. “ Otherwise I would have driven a stake through your heart right now”
“Tell me something” Chris chuckled weakly as he looked at her straight in the eye. “ Since when did you descend so low to mingle with these feeble humans. If I remember correctly, since our last encounter you couldn’t control the urge. My father gave me the details”
“Typical of him” she replied as she pushed him forward towards the building, making him stagger. “Well, to answer your question, the day I decided to mingle with humans was the day I met her.”
“Her?” he coughed out. “Who’s her?”
“None of your business” She growled out, shoving him roughly. “Move!”
“Wow” Tomiwa whispered to Daniel as they followed behind. “Never seen this side of her”
“Trust me” he whispered back. “ It’s best you don’t”
“You guys know I can hear you, right?” Annabelle smiled as she looked behind at them. They facepalmed as they realized she was right. She chuckled and they continued towards the direction of the building.

“I just want to know something” Jake said as he stared intently at Angela who was leaning by the wall and chewing gum noisily. “ What do you really hope to gain from all of this?”
“Good question” she replied with a smile. She moved from the wall and stood beside luke “ It’s quite simple actually. Your friend has something we all need. Something of great power stored in his system since he was born. If we get that, we gain power, glory and best of all, supreme invincibility. I don’t expect you to understand, you and her..” she pointed to Esther who gave her a murderous glare. “..are mere pawns in this game”
“It all makes sense now” Jake smiled shaking his head. “ All the sudden murders, sudden disappearances of students, you feigning interest in me. It was all to get to Daniel.” He frowned and then turned to Luke. “ I may not be in the best situation to make threats, but I know something for sure. You guys are not going to get away with this!”
Luke laughed and moved to crouch in front of Jake staring at him closely.
“You have some fighting spirit boy” he mused. “ I like that. You would make a perfect soldier”
“Damn you” Jake hissed angrily.
“Too late. Already damned” he laughed crazily. Then he rose to his feet and a serious look appeared on his face.
“Have been damned for half a millennium now” Luke continued and began to pace around the room. He stopped by a table and rested his hands on it. “It’s high time I put an end to it. I have waited way too long. And in my many years of waiting, I have watched this earth become more and more corrupt. From the time of men enslaving their own kind for their own selfish needs to the time of the Two world wars all the way to the time of majority countries from this continent becoming independent but yet still psychologically bound to their former colonial masters. You may believe Nigeria is free, but you speak the language of the british, dress like them, reason like them. The ivorians still speak French. Mozambique and angola now speaks Portuguese. YOU HUMANS ARE SO PATHETIC!!!” he screamed as he banged his fist on the table breaking it into two. Esther and Jake’s eyes went wide at that display of incredible strength, while Angela nonchalantly chewed her gum without a care in the world. Luke’s breathing became calm and he turned around to face them with a smile as if nothing happened. Jake had to marvel at the sudden change in his mood.
“But anyway” he continued. “ All that will change soon enough. Speaking of which, our guest should have been here by now”
“He is.”
Everyone looked in surprise at the sound of the voice. They all glanced towards the door and saw Daniel standing there with an angry expression on his face.
“ Daniel!” Esther and Jake chorused. Luke smiled and Angela raised her eyebrow.
“Finally!” Luke clasped his hands together and rubbed them in excited fashion. “ The party has begun. Then again I expected you to have been escorted in. But oh well, you made it. That’s all that matters.”
“So, Angela” Daniel growled as he focused his attention on the girl who was twirling her hair in a Barbie fashion. “ I take it, you are the eyes and ears, Luke was referring to.”
She winked and waved at him. “ You bet”
“Then again, I wouldn’t expect any less from you” he said and then faced luke. “ Tell me, you animal. Just how many more of your kind are in the school?”
“The better question should be how many more of my kind are in this world?” luke smiled. “ But that shouldn’t be your concern.”
“Daniel” his mother called out softly to him. She had never seen that kind of rage on his face. All the years she had known him, he was always soft spoken and rarely got angry. Upset, yes. But furious? He looked like a stranger right now. “ What’s going on? What does he want with you?”
“It’s a lot to explain, mum. But believe me. If we get through this. I’ll give you every detail. I promise” He replied as his eyes went soft and he managed a smile at her. This woman didn’t need to endure all of this. He glanced at Jake and his eyes went wide at what he saw. Jake’s face was bruised and he had a black eye, courtesy of the punch from Chris. Jake managed a smile but Daniel new he was hurting inside. A look of intense fury appeared on his face and he turned to luke.
“YOU SON OF A B.ITCH!!” He screamed. “ You said no harm will come to any of them!”
“Bah” Luke waved him off dismissively. “ I am not the type to keep to my word. It’s boring”
A few seconds of silence passed in the room. Jake and Esther looked on in anxiety and Luke still had the smug smile on his face. Suddenly, Daniel relaxed and the frown on his face gave way to a smile and then….. he started laughing. Luke raised an eyebrow while the remaining occupants of the room were stunned. There was definitely nothing amusing in the situation.
“You know” Daniel said as he wiped the tears from his eyes from laughter. “There is a popular saying that goes like this : when the doctor is sick, give him a taste of his own medicine”
“What are you talking about?” Luke frowned.
Daniel faced the door.
“ You can come in now” he called out.
Luke and Angela gasped in horror as Annabelle and Tomiwa entered, dragging a semi- conscious and bleeding Chris into the room. Angela spit out her gum and her eyes went wide at the sight of her boyfriend nearly bleeding to death. Apparently, the stakes were still in his body. She turned to Tomiwa and their eyes met.
“YOU!!” they screamed simulteneausly in anger. Things were going to get ugly.
As for Luke, he clenched his fists in anger as his eyes suddenly began to glow red and veins began to pulse from around his face.
“RELEASE HIM!!” he bellowed.
“You are in no position to make orders.” Daniel smiled smugly repeating the words Luke used on him earlier that night. “ So, how does it feel to have the tables turned, Luke?.”
Luke said nothing for a while and then calmed down. His face becoming normal again.
“I have to say” he smiled. “ You pulled a fast one and I may have underestimated you. Trust me, it won’t happen again” he concluded with a serious look.
“Oh. it definitely wouldn’t” Daniel smiled knowing he had won the battle. But there was still a long war ahead.
“So what do you say?” Daniel continued. “ My mum and friend for your son? Hmm?”
Luke was silent for a while, narrowing his eyes at Daniel who returned his look with a glare of his own.
“Fine” he sighed submissively. He turned to Angela. “ Release them”
Angela complied not letting her eyes leave Tomiwa for a split second. She untied the captives and they moved towards Daniel. Daniel nodded to Annabelle and she released her hold on Chris. He coughed and staggered forward until he collapsed in Angela’s arms. She pulled out the stakes from him which elicited a loud grunt on his side. He closed his eyes and slipped into unconsciousness.
“Chris” she whispered as she caressed his face. He didn’t budge. A wild look of rage appeared in her eyes as she stared at the Daniel who was leaving with his loved ones. Her eyes shifted to Tomiwa and her rage intensified. That b.itch!!!
Slowly, she rose up and reached into her Jacket, pulling out a pen knife. It glistened under the bright light and Luke smiled already knowing her intentions.
As the others were at the door leading to the exit, A dark feeling came to Jake’s mind and his instincts told him to turn around. He did, just to see Angela raise her hand and throw the knife towards Tomiwa’s back.
“Look out!!” he screamed and before anyone knew it, he pushed Tomiwa roughly out of the way. It seemed like a movie. Everything happened so slow and then it happened. He felt a sharp pain on his chest at the right side. Everyone was shocked as Jake collapsed on his back on the stony floor with a piercing scream. The knife embedded in his chest and blood began to flow rapidly.
“JAKE!!!” Tomiwa screamed in horror. Every one gathered around him and tomiwa held him in her arms ignoring the blood that was gushing out.
“Jake, please stay with us, man. Hang on” Daniel panicked as he held his friend’s hand and saw his slowly close, though he was still breathing.
“We need to call an ambulance!!” Esther cried out. Tears were beginning to stream from her eyes.
“ Oh that won’t be necessary” Luke said darkly as he and Angela began to advance. “No one is leaving this place.’’
Before the vampiric duo could reach the others, a loud smash was heard from the upper window as the glass broke. Wooden arrows flew in from different directions and pierced Luke and Angela, making them scream. Angela collapsed as she was hit on the leg and four arrows pierced her belly. Luke however began to remove the arrows from his arm and thighs. But another arrow flew in and pierced him this time in the heart making him stagger and fall to one knee. Annabelle, Daniel and Tomiwa gasped at that and looked expectantly at him, waiting for him to drop dead immediately. But to their surprise, he pulled the arrow from his heart with a loud grunt and snapped it in half. He looked up to the window to see who was shooting at him but saw nobody.
“I don’t understand” Daniel panicked and turned to Annabelle. “ Why isn’t he dead?”
“I don’t get it either” she replied as fear came to her eyes. “ It’s supposed to kill vampires”
Before anyone could talk further, Three men appeared by the door carrying bows and arrows. One was Caucasian and seemed to be the leader of the trio. He had blonde hair and blue eyes and was muscular. He wore a dark t shirt and dark jeans with fingerless gloves. The other two were twins and were of mixed races. They were also dressed in the same attire. One of the twins bent down to carry Jake but Daniel stopped him.
“Who are you?” he asked suspiciously narrowing his eyes.
“That is not important for now” the leader replied. “ You all have to leave this place now and get the boy to he hospital. He is losing enough blood as we speak. I’ll explain everything later but for now just do as we say.”
Daniel nodded. And the twin carried Jake on his shoulder and left. The remaining two ushered everyone out of the building. Luke was about to charge forward but the leader turned around and shot him in the heart again and he stumbled and crouched weakly, slowing down.
“That should slow him down” The leader muttered before leaving the room.
Luke breathed quickly and then stood up regaining his stamina. Slowly but carefully, he pulled out the wooden arrow in his chest and threw it away. Growling in anger as his wounds quickly sealed up, he cracked his fists and stared upwards and then…









A smile appeared on his face

EPISODE 18

*Dedicated to my avid readers and silent viewers*

“Doctor, how is his condition?” Daniel asked a woman who had just come out from the ward. She was wearing light spectacles and a lab coat. And she looked like she was in her mid 40s. The crew had arrived at the hospital just in time and Jake was rushed in for treatment. His parents were notified by Esther and they quickly arrived like the speed of lightening. So far, there was no ounce of happiness or excitement in the room. Mrs Adewale was seated on a chair, sobbing gently. Esther sat beside her and put an arm around her in a comforting fashion. Mr Adewale sat at the other end of the chair and supported his chin with his clasped hands, a thoughtful look on his face. Tomiwa stood beside them with a solemn look on her face fighting to hold the tears from flowing freely. The memories of his unconscious face were still fresh in her mind.
“Please, Jake” she whispered to herself. “Hang on….Please”
Daniel however had followed the doctor into her office to get more details.
“His condition is moderate” she sighed as she stared at him through her spectacles. “ It was quite fortunate you brought him here on time. If you had tarried any longer, he would have died of blood loss. He has been given drip so he should be steady now. Another good thing is that his parents are here and I can arrange for a blood transfusion.” She reached for some files and tucked them neatly into a drawer.
Daniel sighed gratefully. “ Thank you very much Doctor..”
“ Adekoya” She completed, a gentle smile appearing on her face. “ Doctor Sola Adekoya at your service” she joked to lightened the atmosphere. He chuckled and stretched out his hand, which she accepted.
“Daniel Johnson” he smiled. “ Your service is much appreciated.”
She paused at the mention of his name. “Daniel Johnson?”
He nodded. Her eyes went wide for a bit and she pulled down her spectacles to observe him clearly. Surprise momentarily appeared on her face.
‘ Now that I think of it’ she thought. ‘ The resemblance!! Could he be.. Oh my goodness!!’
“Doctor?” Daniel glanced worriedly at her.
She shook her head to return to reality and quickly smiled at him.
“Is anything the matter?” he queried further with an intense stare.
“No. It’s just… you look a bit familiar” she replied. “ Pardon me if I ask this. Please, what is your mother’s name?”
“Doctor.” Daniel raised an eyebrow. “ Am I safe?”
“Yes you are” she quickly replied with a nervous laugh. “ Just curious, that’s all”
Daniel stared at her for a moment to see if there was any suspicious air around her. He couldn’t find any. Either she didn’t have or she was good at hiding it. He shrugged.
“Esther Johnson” he finally said.
Sola’s heart leaped for a moment. It was unbelievable!! After all these years!! It was him!!
“Oh okay” she dismissed as she put a smile on her face once again. “ Just wanted to know. Anyway, Your friend will be fine. I can guarantee you that. Before the end of this week, he will be discharged”
Daniel heaved a sigh of relief and stood up, before shaking hands with the doctor.
“Thank you once again” He said.
“Please, Master Johnson” she smiled at him. “I’m just doing my job.”
He turned and left the office , oblivious to the studious look she threw his way. He opened the door , stepped out and bumped into a man who was about entering the office.
“Oh, I am so sorry sir” Daniel quickly apologized.
“No problem” The man dismissed. “It’s ….”
The man paused and so did Daniel as the atmosphere suddenly changed. There stared at each other for a bit as if trying to decipher something. Daniel took the time to look at the man in front of him. He wore a green long sleeve shirt which was tucked in black trousers. His shirt did nothing to cover up his muscular frame. Daniel guessed he worked out a lot. There was a tiny scar on his light complexioned face just above his left eyebrow and he had a few stubble around his chin.
“Sorry” The man finally said. “Have we met somewhere before?”
“I was wondering the same thing” Daniel laughed a bit.
“Maybe we have” the man shrugged and smiled. “Who knows? It’s a small world anyway”
“Quite right” Daniel nodded and shifted away from the door. “ Sorry, you can go in.”
The man muttered a thanks and stepped into the office.
“That was weird” Daniel whispered. A hand was placed on his shoulder and he turned around to see the face of the leader of the trio who rescued them from the warehouse.
“ We need to talk” He said.

Sola was busy typing on her system, when the door opened and someone stepped in. She glanced up and saw the man who had bumped into Daniel moments ago outside the office. She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. The man dismissed it with a smile and took a seat in front of her.
“Good evening, Mother” he said staring at her, the smile not leaving his face.
“Eric” she muttered, resting her hands on the desk and looking at him, disapprovingly.“ What are you up to this time?”
“What?!” he cried out in mock surprise. “I can’t pay my dear mother a visit again?”
The disbelieving look remained plastered on her face.
“ Come on, Mother” he sighed. “ At least I am seated before you, alive and well. Shouldn’t you at least put a smile your face.”
“For how long, Eric” she replied. “ How long do you intend to keep risking your life all in the name of vengeance?”
“UNTIL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS DEAD!!” He snarled suddenly and slammed his palm on the table. The previous calmness in his face replaced by rage. Sola was startled by the sudden outburst from her son. She looked around and prayed no one heard them. Eric saw the look on her face and he suddenly felt guilty.
“I’m sorry” he muttered softly. “ I know you are right, but it hurts. They killed her, mother. I had to watch it happen with my very eyes. It’s one thing to lose someone you love, but it is another thing to watch that special person taken away from you and you couldn’t do anything about it”
Sola smiled sadly. She reached forward and placed her hand over her Son’s and squeezed it gently.
“ I know how you feel, dear” she said softly. “I’ve felt it before. And I don’t want to feel it again. Please, you are all I have left and every single time you take these risks. I grow more worried.”
Eric was silent and placed his second hand over his mother’s own.
“Please” She continued. “ I know you are a grown man now and old enough to make your decisions, but I want you to promise me one thing.”
“What’s that?” he looked at her expectanctly.
“Don’t die” she whispered as tears started to well around her eyes.
Eric sighed and reached out to take off his mother’s spectacles. He used a finger to wipe her tears and caressed her face gently.
“I won’t” he smiled.
It was already getting to 5 in the morning when Eric arrived home and parked his car in front of his gate. He switched off the engine and leaned his head on the steering wheel, closing his eyes as he was deep in thought.
He had the perfect life. Wonderful mother, a good house and of course, the best fiancée anyone could imagine. Until it happened… they happened. Vampires!! That fateful night, he and his fiancée had gone on an outing. And they enjoyed every bit of it. On the way back, he was pressed and parked the car by the roadside to ease himself. He was deep in the bush when he heard a loud scream. Abandoning his needs, he rushed to the roadside just in time to see two vampires feasting on his fiancée. They had removed the door by the passenger seat and dragged her out. He stood there in horror as they tore into her neck. They soon finished and snarled at him before taking their exit…..
He snapped awake and shook his head several times before sighing and exiting the car. He closed the door and was about locking it when he heard a sound. His ears perked and a suspicious look appeared on his face.
“ If you love yourself” he growled and still didn’t turn around. “ You would turn around and wisely return to where you are coming from”
A dark chuckle came from behind him and a man stepped into the light. A sinister grin on his face.
“I see we have a tough guy here” he laughed. “ It would be wise to drop the act of bravery”
“It would be wise to leave this place” Eric retorted, still backing the man.
“I don’t think you know who you are messing with” the man said as a nasty frown marred his features.
“Funny.” Eric smirked as he stared at the door of the car. “ I was just about to say the same thing.”
All was silent as a chilly wind blew around the two men. Eric clenched his fists and a serious look appeared on his face. The look of someone prepared for war. The man on the other hand crouched a bit and his face became pale, his eyes turned red and veins appeared around them. Baring his fangs, he suddenly charged forward with intense speed, but a surprising thing happened..
Before he could reach Eric, Eric swiftly reached into his pocket , pulled out a shot gun and swiftly turned around. The man realized too late as Eric pulled the trigger and put a bullet through his head. The man stood still for a moment and then fell on the floor and started trashing and groaning wildly. Eric smiled wickedly and crouched near the man.
“ Wooden bullets” He chuckled as he waved his gun in front of the man’s face. “ Best suitable for demons like you.” The man began to struggle and groan in pain as blood flowed from his mouth. Eric decided to pity him and reached into his tucked in trousers and pulled out a 10 in wooden stake.
He held the man in place and aimed the stake at his heart.
“ Now hold still” Eric grinned as the raised the stake high in the air. “ This won’t hurt a bit…”
The man’s eyes went wide at the sight of the stake.
“It will hurt a lot!!” Eric snarled.

With that, he drove the stake into his heart.
