EPISODE 19

Daniel leaned forward and rested his hands on the cool tiles of the wall as the water cascaded down his body. He sighed in relief and satisfaction at the moderate temperature of the water. Neither hot or cold. He was currently at home taking his bath as he didn’t think going back to school was necessary. A lot had happened from his time in the hospital to now. Explanation of every details to all that has been happening to his mum wasn’t an easy feat as he received some scolding on why he never told her earlier. Of course he omitted the part of Annabelle’s status to her. And there was Sharon who was kept in the dark about all of these. He sighed again as he soaped his hair and began to hand-scrub it. Sharon was so delicate emotionally and he wondered how she would receive this. Then there was his discussion with the three men……..
PREVIOUSLY
“I suppose I should thank you for what you did back there at the warehouse” Daniel said as he sat with the three men at a cafeteria. Annabelle made sure to hang around nearby and watch them, just incase they tried anything suspicious to Daniel. Sure, they did a good deed but she wasn’t the trusting type: especially to strangers.
“ Don’t mention it” The leader said, taking a sip from his coffee. His aquamarine eyes not leaving Daniel.
“My name is Simon” he continued and then gestured to the twins. “ These are my friends, Tony and Ted.”
Daniel smiled and shook hands with them. “ You aren’t much of talkers, are you?” he asked.
“Quite right” Tony replied, speaking for the first time. “ Less of talkers, more of observers”
His brother nodded.
“Your girlfriend has been keeping an eagle eye on us for the past twenty minutes” Simon smiled nodding towards annabelle’s direction.
“ It’s all for good intentions” Daniel replied. Then paused. “ Girlfriend?”
The trio chuckled and Daniel raised an eyebrow at them.
“ What?” Tony said “ You aren’t dating?”
Daniel paused and looked at her direction. She smiled softly at him and he blushed and faced the trio catching expectant grins on their faces.
“Well, I can’t really say” he mumbled.
A disappointed groan waved through the table as the trio became disappointed.
“Oh well, you’ll figure that out later” Simon shrugged and then his face became serious. He cleared his throat and Daniel knew this was important.
“Now for the reason for calling you here” Simon began. “ We want to offer our services to you as your guardians. I can say we have a common enemy. The vampires…” Simon said.
“Wait a minute” Daniel interrupted narrowing his eyes at him suspiciously. “ As much as I appreciate what you did back there. I don’t really know much about you three except your names and the fact that you, Simon, are not from this country. Right?”
Simon nodded.
“ Actually, we are from south Africa” he said and the twins nodded in agreement.
“Alright” Daniel replied. “ How am I sure you guys aren’t vampires too?”
“Huh?” Simon was caught off guard by that question.
“Trust me” Daniel mused. “ They come in…..surprise packages” he concluded, placing emphasis on the last two words.
“Believe me” Simon laughed. “ We are not vampires”
Daniel thought for a second, then he reached into his jacket and swiftly pulled out a wooden arrow before lightly slashing Simon’s wrist, drawing blood.
“What the hell!” Simon howled, clutching his wrist.
“What is wrong with you?!” Tony yelled, glaring at Daniel. “Why did you do that?”
“Just wanted to be sure” Daniel smirked indifferently
“Oh, and you couldn’t find another way to do so?” Simon said, nursing his injured wrist. “ Or ask me?”
“If I had asked permission to use a sharp object on your skin, would you have granted it?” Daniel raised an eyebrow at him.
Simon sighed and showed his wrist to Daniel. It was still bleeding, but reduced.
“There” he said “ Satisfied?”
Daniel nodded. “ Now I just want to know how you got to know about the vampires” he said.
Simon sighed and leaned back in his seat, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“It goes way back.” Simon said. “ The vampires were vicious and merciless creatures who took joy in the killings of innocent people. Well, I never believed they existed. My people would tell stories about them but I dismissed it as a ridiculous legend and a myth. Until one fateful night, he came.”
“Luke?” Daniel queried.
Simon nodded. “ He arrived with an entire coven. They were so numerous. Before we knew it, they attacked our town and fed on many of our people like livestock. Who could put up a fight against them? A handful of us managed to flee. My father didn’t make it. Only my mum, my grandfather, these guys with me and a few others could escape. We made our way to a small town in Johannesburg. We settled there and I can tell you it wasn’t easy. As for me and my friends, our intense hatred of the vampires increased daily and we swore to kill any on sight.”
Daniel gulped as his mind shifted to Annabelle.
“We trained day and night. Physical and mental training and we started our own mission around Africa. Killing them without mercy. But it was all a waste. The more we killed, the more Luke created. In case you are wondering, he is the first vampire and also the strongest.”
“ Guess that explains why wooden stakes and bullets don’t affect him.” Daniel scoffed.
Ted spoke up finally. “ They affect him only momentarily. But they don’t kill him as you saw back there”
“What about sunlight?” Daniel asked
“No” Ted shook his head.
“Holy water?” Daniel pressed,
The trio laughed loudly and hysterically which signified that Daniel wasn’t even close.
“So what?!!” Daniel cried out in frustration. “ He’s virtually invincible?!!”
“No” Simon said. “ We all heard about the X-serum in your blood and we know he is after it. If you put two and two together, you would know that Luke wants it for complete invincibility which proves that he has a weakness. But sadly, Nobody knows what it is.”
Annabelle sighed softly as she eavesdropped on their conversation. Super hearing does come in handy. So far she hadn’t gotten any useful information yet and it was starting to get frustrating.
Her mind quickly went to a friend of hers who was leaving far away in Ghana. The one who taught her how to control her rage and hunger. If she could remember clearly, her friend was a historian and researcher. She had made a lot of study concerning the supernatural. If only…
She snapped back to reality as Simon continued.
“But there is another thing I know” he said as he shook the coffee mug and watched as the hot liquid twirled inside.
“What’s that” Daniel’s ears perked curiously.
“The serum in your bloodstream” Simon looked at him. “ It can be nullified”
Annabelle’s eyes went wide in disbelief when she heard that. Something was definitely wrong somewhere. How could that be?
“It can’t be” Daniel was shocked. “ It’s impossible”
“It’s not” Simon said as a light frown appeared on his face. “I think luke is aware of this, that is another reason he wants you so badly. You are his last hope. The X-serum is very powerful and if it merges with Luke’s blood, He becomes the most powerful being on this entire earth. But if the X-serum is neutralized before He gets his hand on it. It’s over for him. A certain doctor told me there is a toxin that kills the serum in your blood. He also warned that there may be……side effects.”
“Side effects?” Daniel tilted his head sideways.
“Yes” Tony said this time. “We do not know what this toxin is or what this side effect is, but we know you need extra protection because Luke will strike harder this time. The sooner we find out his ultimate weakness, the better.”
“So” Simon smiled and stretched his hand for a hand shake. “Deal?”

CURRENTLY
Daniel sighed as he stepped out of the bathroom. He definitely needed that bath as he felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. He toweled himself and was about to use a lotion when a knock was heard on his door.
“ Daniel” It was his mother. “ Someone is here to see you”
“ Who?” he replied as he rubbed lotion over himself.
“It’s a surprise” She giggled and left the door.
Daniel rolled his eyes and quickly put on some fresh clothes. He jugged down the stairs into the sitting room to find….
“GRANDAD?!!” He cried out in surprise. His grandfather smiled and stood up from the cushion. At 65, he still looked strong and agile. He was tall and had receding hairline. Most of his hair were grey and winkles appeared on his face, though not much.
“Don’t just stand there” he frowned jokingly. “Come here and welcome your old man”
Daniel laughed and went to embrace him. His grandfather held him tight and looked at him over.
“My goodness” He cried out. “ You have become quite the handsome young man. It has been a while. I hope those girls in school are not swarming you” he winked
“ I was wondering the same thing” Esther piped from the kitchen.
“MOM!” Daniel cried out, disapprovingly.
His grandfather laughed and soon they sat down for discussion. Ranging from school, to his studies and how often he visited home. Daniel smiled as he enjoyed his company. It had been so long.
“ Oh I almost forgot” his grandfather said and glanced at Daniel . “ I hope it’s not too late for your birthday present”
“It’s never too late as long as it’s you, Grand dad” Daniel smiled.
His grandfather reached into his pocket and brought out a silver neck chain attached to a ball. The ball was enclosed as if storing something. There was a design on the ball in the shape of a ‘W’ on it.
“Wow” Daniel smiled as he collected the chain from his granddad and examined it. It was beautiful. “ Thanks, Granddad.”
“ I got it from a shop near my house. I thought it would be perfect for you” His grandfather smiled gently and gestured for Daniel to put it on. Daniel obliged and his grandfather nodded in approval. “ And from the looks of it. I was right. Happy birthday Dan. Even though it was yesterday.” He concluded and they both laughed.






If anyone had paid attention to the neck chain around Daniel’s neck. They would have caught the ‘W’ sign on the stone, glowing blue.

EPISODE 20

Luke paced around restlessly in his abode. It had been two days since he sent Chris and Angela to escort the rest of the coven. If his calculations were correct, they should be here by now. He moved to the window and glanced out. The night was still young as the streets was still buzzing with activities. His super hearing picked up on the noises coming from the various vehicles speeding about, loudspeakers blazing from a nearby dance club.
“Hmm” he smirked. “ Dance while you can, feeble humans. Soon you’ll be dancing to my tune”.
He heard footsteps behind him and soon, the door opened. He turned around and saw a man breathing heavily, a panicked look on his face.
“What is it?” Luke frowned.
“My lord” the man panted. “ We have a problem.”
Luke’s eyes narrowed but he said nothing, he nodded to the man to lead the way and they both left the room. They arrived at the compound and Luke was astonished. Chris and Angela stood tiredly with blood allover their bodies though there was no sign of injuries thanks to their healing factor. Chris carried a bloodied corpse, slung over his shoulder. When he saw his father approaching, he bent down and gently laid it on the floor.
Luke inspected the corpse. One of the hands was cut off and there was a gaping hole in the chest. No doubt, the wound was inflicted by a wooden stake. Luke cursed and slammed his fist on the ground making it vibrate from the impact and making Angela jump a little. She moved behind Chris in fear.
“Who did this?” Luke growled lowly, his eyes still staring downwards.
“ Three men, father” Chris said as he swallowed lightly. “We were ambushed at the border. They moved so fast and they were completely armed.”
“Armed with what?” Luke looked at him for the first time.
“Stakes” Chris replied, wiping blood from his forehead with the back of his hand. “ Stakes, swords and arrows made from wood. About 30 of our coven members were killed. The rest fled”
“ DAMN!!” Luke let out an earth shattering scream as he stood quickly and kicked away a wooden table. Everyone was paralyzed with fear as no one was bold enough to calm their Lord’s rage. Angela held Chris arm tightly as she nuzzled against his back, not wanting to look at his father in the eye. Chris shook his head and looked at the floor in shame. Finally after a tense moment, Luke sighed and then folded his hands before staring into space. The trio had struck again just like they did back at the warehouse. Chris mentioned that they were highly skilled but how skilled can a human be to take down 30 vampires with ease? The whole thing was so baffling.
“ You may go” He dismissed. Chris and Angela went inside to freshen up and he stared at the corpse for a while before beckoning on his messenger who swiftly ran to him.
“Get rid of that” he pointed to the corpse.

It had finally happened. The rumored strike. After a long protest, the school finally went on strike much to majority of the student’s disappointment as the exams were already drawing near, but what could they do? They had no choice.
Jake had recovered within a week much to everyone’s joy but the Doctor, Sola had given him precautions concerning stressing himself, particularly on the left side of his chest. After two more weeks, it was safe to say he was medically clear. Sharon still kept in the dark about the mysterious circumstances surrounding her but only knowing about Jake’s injury made sure to invite them to her house for a party her parents were throwing. Something about celebrating a new contract her father bagged.
Daniel on the other hand wasn’t having fun right now as the trio kept tailing him wherever he went, although they kept their distance. Whenever he wanted to visit a friend, they accompanied him but didn’t enter the house, only hanging around. At first, he paid no attention to it but it began to seriously get annoying and he wondered why he hadn’t gone nuts yet.
Daniel, Jake and Tomiwa arrived at Sharon’s house dressed for the party. The house was what you could call a mansion. It was quite big and spacious with a small garden, a play ground and what else could complete the typical rich man’s house if not a swimming pool. Lots of people had arrived and there was a loud speaker with a DJ mixing beats.
“Wow” Jake said in awe as he looked around the house. “This girl is freaking loaded”
“ Tell me about it” Tomiwa whistled clinging to his arm. “It feels like heaven here”
“Don’t get carried away” Daniel grinned and tomiwa pulled his hair. “Hey, watch the hair!!” he cried out.
“ Don’t worry, Annabelle won’t mind how your hair looks” She winked at him and Daniel blushed.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about” He mumbled.
“Of couse you don’t” She teased.
“ Speaking of which, where is she” Jake queried as he slung his arm over Tomiwa. “ Isn’t she coming?”
“She will” Daniel shrugged. “ Said she had to attend to something.”
“Probably planning on the perfect clothes and dramatic entrance for you” Tomiwa giggled.
“ Oh, for crying out loud” Daniel rolled his eyes and the duo laughed.
“Hey Guys!!” They turned to see Sharon striding towards them with a bright smile. She gave each of them hugs, making sure to linger on Daniel which made him raise an eyebrow.
“Glad you could make it” She piped. “ Not too late. Not too early. Perfect timing..”
“Damn, Sharon. Why didn’t you tell us you have elephant dollars ?” Daniel joked and she punched his arm playfully.
“I wasn’t obliged” she shrugged. “ Where’s Annabelle ?” she finally remembered as she noticed that the girl in question wasn’t glued to Daniel’s side as usual.
“ Busy” Tomiwa said.
Sharon shrugged. She didn’t really mind anyway. She led them to the buffet center and they marveled at the amount of people rushing to gather food. Daniel and Jake grinned as they saw a very familiar person….
“SEGUN!” They chorused. The guy in question was on a queue at the food stand with plate in hand and a hungry look in his eye. On hearing his name, he turned around and spotted them. He laughed as he moved towards them and they shook hands.
“The infamous food monger” Jake laughed. “ wetin you dey find for here?”
“Guy, wetin I dey find for party again?” he replied.
“ Na everywhere wey food dey involved, dem go see you” Daniel laughed. “ Your future ambition supposed to be chef”
“ Na una sabi” Segun replied. “ But jake, how far your condition. Shey you dey alright now?”
“ Guy, I dey fine now o” Jake smiled. “ We thank God”
“Abi na” Segun agreed.
Daniel was about to say something when he spotted some one familiar by the pool. The person was texting on his phone . Daniel recognized him as the man he met at the hospital when he was leaving the doctor’s office. He excused himself and moved towards him.
Eric was bored right now. Thanks to his mother’s stubbornness he was forced to attend this party and nothing he could say could deter her. She was conversing with sharon’s mother at the door of the house and he scoffed when he saw them laugh. Pulling out his phone, he started texting someone to pass away time when he noticed someone coming towards him. He smiled as he recognized the boy.
“ Well well well” he put his hands in his pocket. “ It really is a small world”
“Tell me about it” Daniel laughed. “ From the look on your face, you aren’t having fun”
“You guessed right” He frowned. “ You seem to be very observant and an interesting fellow. Pardon me, what’s your name?”
“Daniel” Daniel replied, offering his hand. “ Daniel Johnson”
“Eric Adekoya” Eric replied accepting the younger man’s hand in a handshake.
“Adekoya?” Daniel was a bit surprised. “ I believe that’s the Doctor’s last name”
“Oh yes” Eric replied. “ She’s my mother”
“For real?” Daniel’s eyes replied. “ Wow. It’s just that she looks so.. so.. so..”
“Young?” Eric completed with a laugh and Daniel nodded. “ A lot of people say that.”
“Hello boys” Their attention was drawn to the approaching figure of Doctor Adekoya. “ I take it you’ve met before?”
“Yes” Daniel replied. “ Good evening, Doctor”
“Evening” she smiled. “I can see Jacob is here too. I hope you are enjoying yourself”
“Yes, Doctor. Thanks” He answered.
“ Please excuse me” she said and then turned to her son. “ Eric, a moment with you. please”
Eric obliged and they both walked away. Daniel smiled as he watched their retreating figure before two hands slipped from behind him and covered his eyes. He felt the hands as he recognized the familiar cold texture of them.
“Ann” He smiled. “ Who else would it be?”
The hands left his face and he turned around to see her smiling. His mouth went open at her appearance. She wore a tight black t shirt with pink design and dark blue skin tight jeans that revealed her hips with black heels. Her eyes were adorned with eyeliner and he noticed she was wearing…
“Lipstick?” He raised an eyebrow. “ That’s the first time I’m seeing it on you”
“You don’t like it?” she fake pouted.
“No no no. it’s cool” He waved his arms frantically. “ It makes you look very beautiful”
A seductive smile appeared on her face and he gulped. What was going on in that devious head of hers now?
“ You really wanna know why I wore lipstick?” she purred as she moved towards him slowly and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“ Erm..Yeah” he replied nervously as he noticed her face was few inches from his. He hoped Jake and the rest weren’t seeing this. He wouldn’t know how to endure the endless teasing.
“It’s because..” She ran her lips along his jaw and then whispered in his ear. “I still owe you your second birthday present.”
She nipped his ear with her lips and then drew back to wink at him.

“ By the way” Annabelle said as she touched the silver neck chain around his neck. “ What’s this?”
“Oh this?” he replied. “A gift from my grandfather. Got it for my birthday”
Annabelle narrowed her eyes as she played with the silver ball and traced her index finger around the “W”. Daniel caught the look on her face and raised his eyebrow.
“Any problem?” he asked.
“Not at all” she smiled at him. “It’s just that it looks so beautiful and so unique”
“I know.” He replied. “ My granddad always had the best taste in shopping. Well……except that time he mistakenly bought me a ladies underwear when I was 11” he blushed in embarrassment at the horrific memory.
Annabelle reared her head back and broke into fits of laughter, gathering a bit of attention to their side. Most of the people smiled and dismissed it as him trying to flirt with her and they went back to their business. Soon her laughter was reduced to giggles and she placed one hand on his shoulder to steady herself.
“He did that?” she stifled another round of laughter. “What in the world was he thinking?”
“Beats me” Daniel shrugged and chuckled. “ It’s one of the most complicated errors I’ve ever seen”
“I could have imagined the look on your face when you saw it” she smiled
“Please don’t remind me” he scoffed, looking away.
The DJ had put in a popular song and excused himself. Everyone lit up and began to dance vigorously to the beat, although the teenagers kept the groping to a minimum due to the presence of adults at the party. Jake and Tomiwa started a dance of their own and Segun asked Sharon to dance with him which she reluctanctly accepted due to the fact that he was not the one on her mind. She would have asked Daniel except for the fact that he was currently …….. ‘Busy’
“Come on” Annabelle cried out joyously as she held Daniel’s hand and dragged him to the dance floor. “This is my favorite song”
“I’ll say” he laughed at her childish excitement. He once again had to marvel at this girl. She was really one of a kind. One moment she would act bold and intimidating, the next moment she would act childish, then before he knew it she would act all seductive(That one gave him the shivers). But all in all, she was like a rare gem. He decided at that moment that he was going to treasure that gem.
“Dan” she piped and he blinked back to reality. “I called your name like thrice, now.”
“Sorry” he smiled as he watched her move her waist in tune to the song. “Was thinking”
“About me?” she teased with a wink.
“You wish” he smiled shyly, a pink blush staining his cheeks.
“Aww” she pouted and poked his nose. “ You don’t have to hide it, you know. Your face tells a different tale.”
He stuck out his tongue at her and she giggled.
“Stick that tongue out again” she smiled wickedly “ And I’ll bite it”
“That was so dirty!!” his eyes widened at her naughty statement.
“I know” she whispered.
He was about to fire a weapon of his one when he noticed a new set of people enter the house. They were about 18 in number and they all wore suits and sunglasses, with serious expressions on their faces. Three of them were women, while the majority were men. Annabelle noticed the direction of his eyes and followed it. She raised an eyebrow as she saw the unfamiliar people begin to split ways and spread around the dancers. Eric who was coversing with his mother by the door of the house noticed the strangers and raised an eyebrow in suspicion. The atmosphere suddenly felt tense and only three people noticed the change.
“Who are those people?” Annabelle wondered aloud, slowing her dancing.
“I don’t know” Daniel frowned. “ Security, maybe?”
“ Why would Sharon’s Parents need these much security?” Annabelle was confused. “ are they anticipating an attack?”
“I don’t get it either” Daniel shrugged.
“By the way” She turned to him. “ I arranged a meeting with an old friend of mine. She stays in Ghana and she is into researching. If what those men said in the hospital that day concerning Luke is true, then she can be of use to us.”
“You heard everything we discussed?” Daniel had a surprised look.
“I’m a vampire? Super hearing? Remember ?” she looked at him with a ‘duh’ expression on her face.
“Oh yeah” he laughed nervously. “Forgot about your powers. Your friend, she’s a vampire too?”
Annabelle nodded. “ The one who taught me to control my bloodlust and channel it to animals. I was a mess after Chris turned me. Physically and emotionally” she added with a laugh. “But I met her and made the silly mistake of trying to attack her but she gave me a beating I could never forget.”
Daniel chuckled.
“After which, she taught me a lot. How to control my emotions, abstain, yada yada yada. I owe her a lot. So don’t worry, She wont harm you. The only thing I need to think about now is how we can get to Ghana. Money is not the issue. She can handle that. The issue is how Jake and Tomiwa can come along because trust me, if they find out you and I are travelling, you know the rest. Then there’s your mom…”
“ She wont be a problem” Daniel smiled. “ As long as I’m not staying for long, she wouldn’t mind and as long as she believes those hunters are on guard. It’s fair to her. I could leave granddad to keep her company and negotiate with Ted to guard the house. Then maybe Simon and Tony could come along. As for Jake and tomiwa, they are witty. They will surely find a way to leave their houses.”
She thought for a moment and then smiled at him. “ I believe they will”
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!” They were startled by a feminine voice coming from the DJ’s table. Feminine? And why did that voice sound so familiar? They glanced towards the table and to their shock, they saw Angela behind the mic!!
“Sh*t!!” Daniel cursed. “ What is she doing here?”
“This is bad” Annabelle frowned and glared towards Angela. Angela looked in their direction and a demonic smile appeared on her face. Jake and Tomiwa had stopped dancing and they stood in shock at the sight of the person who was acting as the DJ. Jake swallowed in fear as he knew trouble was looming somewhere. The bullet went through his heart and he collapsed on the floor before dissolving to ash. Another one tried sneaking on him but he was the faster and smarter of the two. “Someone, help me” she whimpered as tears appeared at the corners of her eyes. “Hmm” Angela smiled as she catwalked towards the other girl. “ I could kill you right now but that wouldn’t be Interesting. Why don’t we have a little fun before I put you out of your misery”

“Well. You put up a fight” Angela smiled tracing a finger along Tomiwa’s cheek, making her shiver in fear. “ Even though it was pathetic.” She tore the top of Tomiwa’s shirt to expose her neck. Tomiwa’s eyes went wide as she knew what Angela was going to do next.

“Yes, there is” She smiled. “If you want to kill someone, do it. Don’t just stand there talking about it ”
