HOW TO MAKE MONEY IN PLANTAIN FARMING
Another secret cash machine that people tend to ignore is plantain farming in Nigeria and we want to take a look about how it works, Plantain is very easy to cultivate and maintain unlike other cash crops that requires so much time and money to maintain, This is a low capital agribusiness and almost every Nigerian soil is good for plantain plantation as experience has shown. Therefore, if you have any land with loamy soil, you can start plantain farming on it and start harvesting cash in the next 9 to 12 months.
Plantain is a staple food that is very popular in the tropical regions, It is the tenth most important foot staple that feed people of all race around the world, Plantain is treated in much the same way as potatoes and it comes with similar natural flavor and texture when the unripe fruit is cooked by steaming, boiling or frying, Plantain fruits all year round, which makes the crop a more reliable all-season staple food, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria with inadequate food storage, preservation technology and transportation. In Africa, plantains and bananas provide more than 25 percent of the carbohydrate requirements for over 700 million people, plantains, thrive in tropical regions where the warm temperature, bright sun and adequate moisture create optimum growing environments. Tropical soils, however, are not always suitable for plantain production.
Tropical regions of the world, including the plantain producing regions of southeastern Nigeria, often exhibit soils that are nutrient poor, that’s what scientist says but experience has proved contrary as you can see. There is hardly any part of Nigeria that you wouldn’t see plantain growing, That means it can do well on most Nigerian soil.
What You Need For Plantain Farming
To cultivate plantain plantation, you will need the following:-
1. Land with good soil – Loamy soils are the best producing soils for plantain farming because they contain a good organic to inorganic ratio. Organic materials, such as decaying plants and insects, provide soil with air, nutrients and water-retaining matter. This combination of ingredients, when combined with mineral particles, allows soil to remain loose and fertileIn , tropical rain forests part of Nigeria, organically rich soils are shallow. Plantains will thrive for one to four years but then die back because the layer of organic matter is easily depleted. To avoid depletion, it is necessary to provide soils with compost and mulch.
2. Prepare the soil – Clear the land and cut some of the trees if any, Plantain plants also grow best in bunches or groups because they protect each other from the harsh rays of the sun. It is important to create an environment where the plantain plants are sheltered either because they are bunched up together or there are other trees to protect them, It is important to maintain the humidity of the plantain plantation by allowing some of the trees to remain for the purpose of protecting the plant from excessive sun and to enhance the humidity. This is very essential in plantain farming environment.
3. Get the plantain suckers – Considering that a plantain plant is not a tree but a type of herb, they cannot actually be grown from seeds like most trees. Plantain plants are grown through suckers. Suckers are those that grow from a dying, mature plantain plant that can be transplanted and re-grown. They may be considered as baby plants that are used to start new plantain plants. Choose suckers from plants that are vigorous. They should have small, spear shaped leaves and are about four feet high, There is a corm at the bottom of each mature plantain tree. In transplanting a sucker, it is necessary to cut downwards and get as much corm and root as possible. Plant these and cut or decapitate the sucker to facilitate good evaporation. Keep around two to five meters between planted suckers. In the early days of your plant, keep them moist but not too wet as they don’t have leaves yet to evaporate the water.
4. Control the weeds – The weeds control is very important if you want your plantain to do well, the cost of weed management could account for up to, 45% of the total cost of plantain plantation management in Nigeria. Use traditional weed control of employing laborer to do the weed cutting, As the plantain grows, it is important to protect it from strong winds. It is also important to keep it well watered. One can also sprinkle fertilizers every now and then but mostly throwing the plantain dead leaves back into the plant is enough to sustain the rich quality of the soil, Unlike other trees, plantain do not need complicated pruning. Just remove dead leaves and dead plants near the plantain. Also remove suckers from the plant keeping only one or two that have spear shaped leaves, If you must use a fertilizer, Use an NPK fertilizer, or a fertilizer mixed with nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous. Fertilizing the plantains once a month will stimulate growth. The fertilizer should be placed evenly in a circle that is four to eight feet from the trunk, Within 8-10months your plantain should be ready to produce, and as one is getting matured for harvest, another one is replacing it, they continue in that circle removing any stress expenses of planting again. All you do is to harvest and reap your profits all year round. The same thing apply to Banana.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN VENTURING INTO PLANTAIN FARMING
I can say from experience that plantain farming is one of the most profitable crop in agribusiness, Sustainable profit is made over a long period of time,(5-15years) with no need to cultivate the land after the initial set up, You can’t make money in plantain business without doing it in the right way, We can’t continue to farm the way our grandfathers decades farmed and still expect to see different result in the agricbusiness sector.
Have you heard or see a hybrid cultured suckers?
This is a new plantain sucker production technology whereby you have uniform planting suckers that is disease-free and high yielding, If you plant 1000 suckers on the farm, you are sure of harvesting 1000 bunches at the same time with high yield, The major reason small scale farmers keep wallowing in poverty despite the fact that they produce about 70% of the food over 180million Nigerians consume is because they find it very difficult to find right market for their produce, As you know that good marketing is what generate the profit in business, there is need to find a good market for your plantain.
How do you provide a ready market for your plantain?
What i make use of is contract sale which i find still very new to agropreneurs in Nigeria, In a simple language, contract sale is going into partnership with a high end buyers to supply a particular produce at a fixed price, It saves you from price fluctuation of agric produce and you are able to have ready mark.
NOTE: Serious minded investors can be provided with more detailed information and technical assistance in setting up this project.

How to Become Palm Oil bulk buyer and Seller in Nigeria
Are you a retiree? Do you have idle cash lying in your bank account and you are looking for a means to earn extra income? Then below is an in-depth guide on how to make money buying and selling palm oil, When most people hear that palm oil business is very lucrative, they quickly dismiss the idea of taking a plunge because starting up a palm oil processing company requires much more capital than they can ever afford, But the truth is that you too can tap from the opportunities in the palm oil business without necessarily having to set up your own processing company or starting a palm plantation. How? You can achieve this by buying and selling palm oil for profits. In fact, you can make millions just by buying, storing, and reselling palm oil. One of Nigeria’s billionaires, Orji Uzor Kalu started out in business as a palm oil trader and he made millions from this business, before I discuss the steps involved in buying and selling palm oil for profit, let me enlighten you about the commodity and its marketability. (I am assuming you do not know anything about it before now. Pardon me if you already did).
Reasons Why You Should Start Trading Palm Oil for Profits
Palm oil is a natural extract from the red palm fruit. It is orange or yellowish red in color, and it is widely produced in West African countries and in Far East countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. In these countries, it is widely consumed by the natives, and it is also exported to neighboring countries.
Palm oil owes its huge demand in countries such as Nigeria and Malaysia in part to its huge population and health benefits. Palm oil is a good source of vitamin E, which promotes healthy skin. It is also rich in carotene, which enhances vision. And most importantly, unlike most other oils, it doesn’t promote the accumulation cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins that are harmful to the body, Another reason why palm oil sells well in the above-mentioned countries is its relative cheapness when compared with other edible oil, and its relatively long shelf life. With proper storage, palm oil can last up to one year without losing its quality.
In Nigeria and other West African countries, virtually every household cooks with palm oil. So, you can imagine how much profit you can make from the market in these countries, With the above in mind, let’s now discuss how the business of buying and selling palm oil works. It goes without saying that this business simply involves buying palm oil and selling palm oil, but there are two methodologies of running this business; and you are free to choose any of the two or even combine both.
Choosing your palm oil business model
The first model involves buying the commodity, adding some margin, and selling to the next available buyer. Though you won’t make huge profits with this model, you will make smaller profits on a consistent basis. The downside of this model is that you may be badly hit by sharp drops in the price of the commodity, which happen occasionally. But there are two sides to this possibility; you can make huge profits during occasional price surges as well.
The second model involves buying during the time of the year when the commodity is abundant, and selling only when it becomes scarce. Usually, in Nigeria, l (because it is abundant during that time of the year).
So, if you buy 1000 liters of palm oil when it’s cheap, and sell it when the prices go up, you can make between 100% to 200% profit or even more depending on the scarcity and on your location within Nigeria. It’s the same story in other countries where there is huge demand for palm oil.
In Nigeria, a 25liters of palm oil brought for #5,000 – #7,000 during the abundant season (depending on your location) in 2016, During the scarcity period, that same 25 liter can goes for #15,000 – #22,000 interval of 4months, palm oil can be sourced at a cheap price in places such as Edo, Delta, akwa Ibom and some local area in western Yoruba zone in best storage facility is State of Osun palm oil poducers indeed etc and resold at a profitable price in places such as Kano, Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, etc. Most times, traders recorded huge profits by adopting the second model, but it usually requires larger capital than the first model, Having explained the methods of running a palm oil trading business, let’s now discuss the steps involved in starting the business.
How to Start Buying and Selling Palm Oil for Profits
1. Get your storage space
You will need to secure some pace for storing your palm oil, regardless of the business model you choose to adopt. If you have some storage space right in your home, that would guarantee rest of mind. But it would be better to have your storage space close to where your customers are. So, renting a shop near a local market around you is a very smart idea. In Nigeria, palm oil is best stored in big blue drums / barrels, in a cool place away from direct sunlight, It takes about 6– 8 (25liters) gallons to fill a barrel.
2. Arrange with suppliers
Aside customers, your business needs suppliers to thrive, since you are not processing the commodity yourself. Try to find suppliers that produce high quality palm oil. You may need to conduct thorough research before making your choice because the success of your business would hinge largely on the quality of the palm oil you get from your supplier. From personal experience, i can say that good palm oil can be sourced from Osun, Ekiti, Ondon state in places such as sound in good storage terms with years duation to store it with risk free etc.
3. Decide on transport arrangements
You would need to transport your palm oil from the supplier’s location to your shop or storage location. And in some cases, you would need to transport palm oil to your customers as well. (In fact, you can make more money by charging extra for delivery. Buyers would readily pay for the convenience), Most times, palm oil are best transported in gallons and if you are transporting from Eastern Nigeria to either the Western or Northern part of the country, you can use the services of popular transport companies such as The Young Shall Grow Motors, G.U.O Motors, Cross Country etc. If you have a van or truck to yourself, that would be fine. But if you don’t have one, you would need to hire one each time you need to transport your commodity.
4. Market and sell your product
To make profit, you need to find buyers for your product. You would easily attract them if you offer high quality palm oil for unbeatable prices. Depending on your chosen model, you can choose to sell your commodity to the next available buyer, or wait until prices go up before selling.

That means we spends billions buying Rice that has since lost it’s nutritional values.
Any entrepreneur in Nigeria who goes into Rice Farming and get it right is sure to be smiling to the bank. A bag of Rice is currently sold for #15,000 above depending on the quality and location. A farmer who is able to invest in large scale Rice Farming in Nigeria and produced 100,000 Bags of processed Rice in a year, sell at wholesale price of about #10,000 per bag, he will be making 10,000 x 100,000 = #1,000,000,000 imagine eas way to become Billionaire.
You can achieve the above figures conveniently with less than Three hundred million Naira (#300,000,000) capital investment! I’m currently looking for who to partner with in this. If you have the cash, I have the logistics and good plannings to achieve that. Serious investors only!
2. Cassava Farming -The popularity of cassava as the major source of food for Nigerians dates back to ages. Between Garri and Rice, it’s hard to tell which one is the most popular as both are the most consumed food staples among the citizens — I think if one is the King the other should be the Queen, A bag of Garri costs almost the same as a bag of rice, and apart from garri, there are tens of other food stuffs that are processed from Cassava in Nigeria. The introduction of the high yield species of Cassava has made it possible for Nigerian Cassava Farmers to produce more Cassava per plot, Nearly every land in Nigeria is good for growing Cassava in Hectares, If well properly planted and managed can produce Millions of Naira worth of Cassava Stems and tubers in a year!
3. Plantain Plantation – One thing I like about Plantain is that when planted once, it keeps producing year in year out for eternity. Like Rice and Garri, Plantain is widely consumed in Nigeria and you know — any food that is popular in Nigeria is always a huge income earner due to the population of the country.
I really haven’t seen Farmers in Nigeria taking advantage of the opportunity in Plantain Farming to create wealth for themselves. Plantain is highly priced in Nigeria and is always in high demand all year round. Fry it, Boil it, Roast it — it will never get angry with you, that’s how liberal Plantain is. I can tell you, Millions of Naira is currently lying fallow untapped in this sector of Farming in Nigeria.
4. Poultry Farming – Everyone knows how ‘Cashy’ this one is, it doesn’t need much introduction and yet it’s still not fully tapped. What we currently have are few badly managed, scantily equipped poultry farms here and there. I’m yet to see a full fledged, high tech Poultry Farm as it is in The USA and Europe except Obasanjo’s Farm which I don’t think is currently in serious business, Any serious entrepreneur who is able to fire this up will have huge profit to contend with. The reason is because Nigerians eat chicken more than snakes do and 70% of our consumption still based on importation. The egg is yet another goldmine!
5. Pineapple Farming – Money is sweet, everything sweet is money, and Pineapple is sweet. Ask any Australian Farmer and he will tell you how huge the income in Pineapple Farming is in their country. Any juice maker that doesn’t have Pineapple flavor variety in his product line is not yet in business. That tells you how popular Pineapple is, not only in Nigeria but Worldwide, Nigeria seems to have better soil for Pineapple Farming than Australia where Farmers are making it big in the business. A Pineapple sells in Mile-12 market in Lagos for about #200 above — If you are able to harvest one million in a year, you will earn Millions every harvest season.
6. Beans Farming – A bag of Beans costs twice more than a bag of Rice and garri the Northern Nigerians are making it big in Beans Farming, supplying almost all over Nigeria and beyond. But one thing is that, this same Beans also can do very well in the South East, South West, and South South Nigeria soils. So why only the North?
7. Catfish Farming – Catfish Business is really hyping in Nigeria right now but how many are really getting it right? Get it right and you’re in money. A single Catfish sells for #1,000 above in Restaurants and about #600 above in open market.
8. Goat Rearing – It’s only in the North that goat is reared in commercial quantity. I don’t know why we are so looking down on Farming Investment in the South even though there are millions to be made in this business. Why would you chose to sell used shoes in Oshodi and make few thousands of Naira yearly than to engage in productive Farm Business and make millions of Naira, in USA and Australia, Farmers are among the Richest people – Get involved in professional goat rearing and make money for yourself. A full grown goat sells for between #12,000 to #25,000
9. Snail Farming – I see Snail Farming really picking up in Nigeria very soon — but if you don’t hurry up, others would have made the money before you realize what you are missing. The potential in this business for you is about #50,000,000 Annual revenue.
10. Maize Farming – You never know the profit in Maize Farming in Nigeria until you try it, and one thing I like about it is that everything happens fast. It takes less than Four months between planting and harvesting.
We talk more on Cocoa, Palm Tree, Cashew, Moringa and Ginger farming how lucrative to smile always to your bank.
Stand up is to Get involved in any of these Farming and you will never regret it, Drop us a comment if you are in support of Farming Business in Nigeria!
NOTE: Serious minded investors can be provided with more detailed information and technical assistance in setting up this project.

How You Can Start Your Own Money Making Farming Business
You can achieve anything if you put your mind, body and soul into it. With God, hard work, and determination, you can get there, I am propel to write about my farming business story to motivate and inspire the Youths that farming business can get you the wealth and the good life you want, I was driving my car in a friend’s neighbourhood, i heard some young men were saying ‘see one of the yahoo boys’. That’s how they see things; anybody driving a big car is involve in one untidy deal or the other.
My fellow Nigerian youths, dealing in drugs, internet scams, rituals, in order to make ends meet will take you no where, it will only destroy you. Come join the movement….farming pays, Last week, I was negotiating a property when the man ask me ‘where did you work’,i told him ‘i am a farmer’ he said ‘Young man please be serious’, i guess he is still living in the 18th century, farming is a business and money making, proud profession in this 21st century.
With the abundance, fertile uncultivated land wasting and cheap labour, the advantages of channeling your energy into farming business, far outweigh involving yourself in criminal acts, People blame government for not providing the jobs for our youths.
The truth of the matter is that our government is faced with many issues, the best they can do is to provide the enabling environment for businesses to thrive so jobs can be created. You need to start something now to be self-employed.
Getting involved in agribusiness can create wealth for yourself and jobs for other teeming unemployed.
My successful farming story is a story of putting God first, hardwork, Learning, perserverance, Never-give-up attitude
Its being a long, rough way coming; starting a business with no successful mentor to look up to, with no financial resources. I get a lot of messages asking me “how do I get fund to start a farm,” but the real issue is not about funding to get started, its about having ideas and experience, if I had access the fund i have access to now at the time I started, i will have been in serious debt, I found myself (a degree graduate) negotiating with the locals on how to access free land which will be paid back after harvest. That was how i kickstart my first cassava farm.
How many graduates can be humble enough to negotiate with less superior in knowledge, skills etc far away from the city? what i see with most graduates is their head is bigger than their neck, they prefer to stay in the city doing nothing, wasting their lives and time expecting luck or miracle to happen, I tried my hands on different crops that were not successful due to inexperience in the production system and the market
I collaborated with some of the like-minded young graduates that are interested in farming as well. We stayed together in a ‘face me i slap you’ one room apartment i rented in the village. Many of my friends have part time jobs in the city so they only come on weekend, We pulled resources together and we made meagre profit of 3k on 1 acre of melon. That little profit changed my perspective about how profitable farming can be if proper things are done well, So if one can improved on my production and correct some of the mistakes and error made with more acres, more profit can be made”. I said to myself That was how the journey began and since then i have not looked back.
.The questions are how humble can you be to learn from people lesser than you? how can you improve your production system, knowledge and experience.

Most Important Skills You Need To Succeed As A NewBie In Farming Business
I remember during the earlier years of starting farming business, they were lots of naysayer and negative people around me, Some friends wanted to discourage me just because i want to be a farmer, they said to my face ‘ a whole graduate want to farm in the village, Are you degrading or upgrading yourself’? Then I didn’t give them an answer then but they know right now that i have upgraded.
Even when i get to the village, i met some local farmers, middlemen/women that told me my face and hand looks like somebody that should be sitting inside an office but i believe farming business is not in the body parts but something deeper than that (your passion, your love). I have been writing this article for hours now,Not minding a stressful yesterday just to make sure you start something and succeed on the way, Thats the huge sacrifice i can make when it comes to my passion.
My father also gave very little support, because he has done cocoa business before and seen some good results but was not in total support, the plan he had for me was not what I was following, Sometimes, the journey is a lonely journey. i am still grateful for the little support
I ask for some funds from him to acquire some farmlands then, he was very sceptical that he gave me some me like 1/4 of the money I will be needing. In his mind, he will be like ‘lets even see what this boy we make of this ‘
He called me last month about his new inspiration for farming , i said ‘daddy, at what age, let we the young generation continue from where you stopped’.
My people always say’ you can only work what that worked’.
The first skill to succeed in your farming business is to surround yourself with positive people that have worked it out successfully in the industry and work in the path and be far (as heaven is far from the earth) from negative people.
This kind of people are very scarce, you are good to go (the business of farming is a lonely business) I received numerous calls and messages, something like Can you help us setup and manage cocoa plantation, poultry farm? Can you setup catfish farm? Do you have contact of where i can sell my Goat? Do you have moringa plantation? Can you consult for us in Moringa cultivation?
All of the time my answer is NO, Most newbie want to do everything at the same time.
This is not because of the knowledge, i know little about them, i can do fish farm, rear goat at my backyard, but the question is ‘Do i have what it takes (large markets, contacts, experience) to commercially manage them profitably.
Whenever i hear people say that they are into fish, cattle, goat, cassava, oil palm, i know they don’t know what they are doing, I don’t want to be master of all trade, master of none and failure of all, The skill you need is to be focus on your few crops and master everything about them.
We focus on crops like:::: Cassava, Maize, Pineapple, Plantain, Tomatoe and Pepper, Moringa, Ginger, Cocoa and Cashew etc
We have the knowledge, vast experience in their cultivation and how to profitably managed them, Some people complain that its not working because they devote limited resources to different crop, they want to cultivate watermelon, cassava, tomato, etc. it does work that way leave Farm business set up for Farmers, we manage for you till harvesting marketable period to smiles to your bank.
The skill to have is selling/marketing. Selling/marketing is vast, i have written an article on how to profitably sell your agro-products, If you know how to produce but not how to sell, you will be discouraged because this is where you recouped your investment with profit, My advice in this aspect is to Produce what the sales wouldn’t have to be determined by the fluctuations of supply and demand in the local market, Kindly like my page and share to your friends and families and don’t forget that anything you need, lands, agricultural inputs such as tractor for sales and rent, managing agric business Consultancy and good hybrid seedlings seeds and suckers.

In Nigeria, a 25liters of palm oil brought for #5,000 – #7,000 during the abundant season (depending on your location) in 2016, During the scarcity period, that same 25 liter can goes for #15,000 – #22,000 interval of 4months, palm oil can be sourced at a cheap price in places such as Edo, Delta, akwa Ibom and some local area, in western Yoruba zone best storage facility in Oil is State of Osun palm oil poducers doing good indeed and resold at a profitable price in places such as Kano, Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, etc.
Depending on your chosen model, you can choose to sell your commodity to the next available buyer, or wait until prices go up before selling from September to January.
