It's sad seeing humans being treated as commodities, who would have thought it was this way?. . .Wow, these guys never thought blacks were humans back then, that's the truth. Glad we've progressed even though some people haven't.
On another note, it has a comedic tone to it! . . .Reminds of the joke I made a while back about WalMart selling fat, lazy slaves on layaway!

Househelp is different. . . Househelps do maintain contact with their family and more often than not, they're sent to school and trained. Ofcourse there are bad "madams" in the whole thing but househelp is nothing like a slave or child labourer.
I can only say waoh!.

U strangely are sounding like ahmadenijad of Iran. . . trying to convince us all that the holocost wasnt so bad. . oh well. .i know u are neutral,but still u can appreciate the horrors of slavery,compared to housegirls in Naija which is though bad in our times but not quite as barbaric. . .remember that when these so called slaves give birth,the kids also become slaves,that is no escaping the harsh life,i doubt it is so with housegirls. . most times in Naija if they venture to get belle,it is carry go meet your husband. . .lol

Maybe you are naive,maybe you are just being spiteful. . .whateva the case let me give u a brief lesson in slavery in the Americas(U.S.A). . . my dear u cannot and should not compare it to the housegirl situation in Nigeria. . . For one most housegirls are not sold in open markets like live cattle in NiGERIA,at least they were not when last i was there.
again housegirls or boys have an option to walk out ar move away if they are tired of the madam,they sometimes run back to the village or move out wit a lover or whateva. . . .
For slavery u are owned until someone pays for your Freedom,or even if u run away you can be hunted and returned to bondage. . . .again the onus is on you to proof you are not a slave,so lets say you mamaput are a freeborn,living in washington D.C in the 1700. . . .you can be walking down the street and a white man will just pounce on you and say,you are my runaway slave from say Alabama. . .now its up to you to proof you are not the one that ran away,never mind the injustice of the act of slavery itself. . .now imagine your horror and terror that you go through knowing that the U.S passed such a law that told slaveowners they could hunt runaway slaves anywhere in the U.S. .

Well, it's close grade one comedy to think of an era when humans were thought of as a commodity.
Slavery in any form or fashion is a travesty. But to even conceive of comparing househelp to the atrosities metted out on african brothers and sisters stolen from their homeland, beaten, butchered, slaughtered and sold off to a life of constant servitude and daily fear of death, shows tantamount ignorance.
The social impact of this event in history has both good and bad sides. I have heard arguments that the best were stolen from Africa, and for that reason from generation to generation Africa although rich with resources is still a 3rd world country, and plagued with poverty comparable with nowhere else on earth.
I also know for a fact that we have lost our name, our culture, our language and our traditions during the diaspora. As a result there are so many africans here who adopt western culture and the adverse outcome of same.
Conversely there are many successful africans in America and all over the world. We excel at whatever we put our minds to.
In Africa, family is important, good parenting, a focus on the importance of education, fear of God, community and Godly values are taught. We had something similar to that in Trinidad up to early 50s to 60s, when an african child was raised by the entire community. But that doesn't exist anymore.
Now, people are afraid to correct a 12 year old boy if he is misbehaving on the street, because surely he will turn around and pronounce curses on you that you never knew existed.
If you observe closely you will see and hear things that are inherent to Africa. The way we speak, the food we cook.
But in general, as in all other countries where there are descendants of slaves, we do not have the privelege of knowing our tribe and our native tongue as a second language.
Africans in Africa cannot grasp the enormity of our loss. They take their heritage for granted.
In any event, God allows everything for a reason, and I am glad that I am an Afro-Trinidadian. It is as it should be.
But please, never insult the memory of our ancestors by comparing the life of a half-caste house maid to that of a pure blooded son or daughter of Africa Molested of all their self respect, dignity and self worth. It is truly an insult.

Obviously but not surprisingly you miss the point. I have no "problem" with my history, and I certainly have a very good life, thank God. As I said God is always in control and I am happy to be who I am, and I'm quite sure I didnt refer to anyone specifically in my previous post.
So before you try to wax philosphical about an issue with which you cannot empathize for whatever reason, you should try to read and understand fully the issue being discussed.
