So I personally would not want to draw any inference from any pre-formed bias or belief about what the problem is in this country but the following are the reality which cannot be ignored. That;

1. Nigeria is one of the most blessed country in the world in terms of natural resources.

2. Nigeria has a set of leaders who are no different from the same set of people who rule the western world. I mean politics accomodate the intelligent, entertainers as well as illiterates.

3. That we have so many policies and intervention programmes aiming to ameliorate the past, current and futuristic problems and challenges that social scientists and politicians envisage.

4. We are statistically one of the most educated black country on earth.

Based on the above, there are two questions:

a. Why is our development and growth so slow?.
b. Is Nigeria going to ever become developed?.

What bothers me most is the gap in technological advancement.

For example, there was a lot of noise in the Fashola administration about getting decommissioned railway lines from somewhere in North America to be installed here. Europe and Asia are already on building water bridges capable of carring ships and bullet trains.

The best infrastructural amenities we have around are sometimes what was built pre-independence.

Then, we barely have any patriot in our political circles. Everyone just wants to accumulate wealth enough to emancipate their lineage forever from poverty at the country's detriment.

The widespread level of illiteracy, low level of political expectation and high level of national attention to religion up to hypocritical proportions are also factors.

I fear we are going to be third world for quite a stretch of time...

The fault is not with our stars but in ourselves.

3. That we have so many policies and intervention programmes aiming to ameliorate the past, current and futuristic problems and challenges that social scientists and politicians envisage.

Hardly the same issues that existed in 1980 haven't been solves now. It's same old story just new slogans. Look at electricity promises, education promises and all the other by year 2000, 2010, 2020, 2030. Nigerians policy works to put out fires not to strategically plan for greatness.

a. Why is our development and growth so slow?.

Nigeria doesn't take proactive steps to achieve those objectives.

b. Is Nigeria going to ever become developed?.

Sure at snail pace if nothing changes. Nigeria has to to get ready for population explosion.

Yes Nigeria will become a developed nation only if Nigeria can reduce corruption and tax evasion to a minimum
Re: Will Nigeria Ever Become A Developed Country by KINGwax007(m): 4:44am On Feb 12, 2017
According to economics, a developed country is the one that produces more than her career can consume. Be in infrastructure, utility or product.

With the rate at which y'all wish buhari or anyone who comes in to ban the importation of what you can produce locally, in order to you to be independent, dead, you can never be a developed country.

Take my word for it

1. Who Natural resources alone epp? You need local knowhow to exploit the resources otherwise foreigners will be in control and you end up like Nigeria selling crude oil and buying fuel.

2. Nigeria leaders are different, they steal from home and invest abroad. They have no confidence in local expertise like Buhari and his medical tourism.

3. Implementation of policies is the real thing and that is our bane.

4. Black countries are not well educated in the way the world economy works. They lack the pragmatism and long term planning to make the system work in their favour.

Answers:

a. Our development is not slow relatively.
b. Nigeria cannot develop effectively under the current structure of sharing as opposed to baking especially with the population explosion. It's the economy stupid.

1) Nigeria's resource will be offsetted by its growing population. by the nowadays' technology and production capability, even large as USA, can only raise less than 400 million people. see what happen in China, a country as large and resourceful as USA, but has 3 times more population.that is why China is still lagging behind, and if China can not solve its population problem, it will never catch up with USA.

2) never rely on the leaders. among the developed countries, only Japan accessed to be the Power by the endeavor of its higher class. all the rest developed countries, Britain, France, Germany, USA, how did they prosper? by the hard work of their working class and middle class.

3) west countries are civilized countries, not because they put the words of FREEDOM into their law and policy, but because their people have free conciousness deep in their bones, and the civilians , after struggling, made the government acknowledge their liberty and put it in the law.Nigeria is not lacking of beautiful laws transplanted from the developed countries, it is lacking of the people, the ethos, the zeitgeist that can write their own laws.

4) compared with developed countries, education in nigeria is still a huge defect. how many Nobel laurreates do Nigerian universities contribute? how many patents ? how many international academic theses?

5) killing corruption, is impossible, and it is not a way to be developed country at all. in nigeria, like in many other developing countries, corruption is systematically functioning. so , to rely on one "leader" to kill it all, it is impossible. and we should be aware that, being clean of corruption is a by-product of the developed countries, but, being clean of corruption can not lead a country to be a developed one right away.

When we are still grazing cattle on people's farms and spreading cow poo along all major roads and cities? No, Nigeria can never develop.

The question is a false one since there is no such thing as a Developed Nation. All nations are developing. If you mean will Nigeria ever attain the standards of some of the more advanced Nations of the West currently, then the answer is Yes all things being equal. By then, those Western Nations will have progressed to more advanced levels, all things being equal.

It only seems like Nigeria is advancing but only a few generation behind the west because of foreign innovations and things left behind from the colonials, but that's not the case, if it were then Nigeria would already have steady electricity and pipe borne water, something that was standard to most industrialised countries well before the generation Nigeria thinks it's trapped in (1970s).

#IStandWithRevolution

What silly revolution? There's nothing an Igbo man has in common with an hausa or yoruba man, not one thing! That's the simple reason why a revolution CANNOT work in nigeria. A suitable example is playing out right now, while there were lots of anti-buhari protests in the south west, the core northerners up north were celebrating buhari and "standing with him". Nigeria is toooooooooooo fragmented along ethnic, cultural and religious lines to come together under one common umbrella to kickstart a revolution.

After the protest last week, how market na? Has everyone not gone back to suffering and smiling? grin grin

Keep quiet and enjoy your leaders.

ur idiocy is applauded grin...

To use the adjective, 'despicable' before zombie is a sign of metal degradation, because a zombie, naturally, is not appealing.

But I guess, your tendency and readiness to use it, even when it appears inappropriate, explains what goes one under the roof, where u grew up, and called a home. Someone, probably the natural head of your nuclear family, uses a lot, on his spouse and children.

wink grin cheesy
