The Yoruba Initiatives (TYI), a Socio-Cultural and Non-Political group in the South-West has cautioned against the growing agitation to break-up Nigeria. The group said this in a statement issued by its Spokesman; Mr Fola Olamiti on Monday in Abuja. Olamiti stated that the decision was reached at the end of the second meeting of the group held in Ibadan.

The group pledged to join other well-meaning groups in the country to canvass for and ensure that Nigeria was restructured. It also called on the Federal Government to consider a timely restructuring of the country as an immediate solution to the increased agitations. “Restructuring will end the multifaceted problems of Nigeria including corruption, inter-ethnic issues, stifled growth of the federation, widespread security challenges and general suspicion.

“The idea to restructure Nigeria has been thoroughly debated and agreed to during the last National Conference by all the geo political zones of the country. “This is the reason why the government should stop dismissing the idea with a wave of hand.’’ The group said the secessionists in some geo-political zones of the country were gaining attention owing to widespread disenchantment with the state of the economy. The group said it was disposed to networking with the State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly and other stakeholders to drive the restructuring agenda of the economy.

It said the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting had rejected secession and advocated for the full restructuring of the country. The communiqué said all the geo-political zones supported restructuring in the last National Conference and pledged to join other groups in the South-West to work out appropriate mechanism for the restructuring.

As an Igbo man, I laugh when I hear Yorubas talk about restructuring.

Yorubas dont want to accept the truth. They want 'one Nigeria' but do not realise this is the same reason why restructuring will never happen.

For the Northerners, there is no difference between restructuring and Biafra, which is why they will never allow either to happen.

By Vincent Ujumadu, Awka OHANEZE Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio –cultural organization, has dissociated itself from the activities of the Biafra agitators, who had been protesting in many cities in the South East and South –South, saying that Biafra died in 1970 with the surrender by General Philip Effiong, to the Nigerian troops. Addressing reporters in Awka Friday, the chairman, Forum of State Presidents of Ohaneze in the seven Igbo –speaking states, Dr. Chris Eluomunoh said that no right thinking person would support what he called the madness by some youths, who were being deceived to engage in something they cannot finish. He said: “You will notice that Ohaneze has been very silent on the issue of Biafra insurgency, though the youth wing of Ohaneze has been speaking on it. Ohaneze, as the Igbo cultural group, cannot support Biafra and we dissociate ourselves from it totally.

There's so much noise over this matter. People often agitate for one form of separation or self governing in all parts the world so it's nothing new.

What surprises me is that upon all the criticisms, you are still unwilling or should I say afraid to let them go.

I have said before that it seems Yorubas don't seem to understand how stubborn the northerners are.

The only way out of this is for them to get aggressive to demand for a break up like the Igbos. Such aggression will push the north to call for a round table discussion.

Their best bet is restructuring. If you don't place the price high, you cannot sell at a good bargain.

One day things will be too tattered to patch. There won't be any more money to spend to run FG.then we will have no choice than to 'restructure'
