WHERE ARE THE NEXT CHIKE OBIS, WOLE SOYINKAS, CHINUA ACHEBES ET AL?

Has anyone ever thought of how much the winner of the notorious but also meaningless Big Brother Naija show is expected to walk away with at the end of 11 licentious weeks? A whopping N25,000,000 with an exotic car and one-year wardrobe allowance!
Did anyone ever think of what it requires to qualify for the the 'yèyé' show? Very simple! Cohabit with a set of equally-like-minded-and-morally-decadent people. Display all sorts of licentious and sensual mannerisms replical of the bastard white 'asumónùdís' who relish shamelessly in sleeping with dogs, apes and horses and and then-win!
Has anyone thought of how impactful it would have been if such is replicated in the educational sector? Imagine if such shows could house eggheads from our primary and secondary schools. Imagine if such shows could house graduates and undergraduates of our tertiary institutions and make them compete for similar prizes. But, nay! We only promote moral bankruptcy. We will rather allow our best in Mathematics competition to go home with ridiculous N250'000 as winning prize.
We prefer giving mouth-watering and outrageous prizes to people who promote insanity. We give out millions of Naira just for 'sucking breasts' and display of woman nudity. And I ask: "How do we produce another Chike Obi in this clime? How do we replicate another Wole Soyinka? How do we nurture a new Chinua Achebe?"
And finally, lemme ask albeit rhetorically, those millonaires we have produced over the years from Big Brother Africa till date, how many of them do their names still ring bell till date? How many of them are still able to sustain that altitude of riches today? Just thinking aloud!

In life, we need to learn something: to each, his own. Live and let live. If you don't like BBA or whatever, don't watch it. Do what you like and leave what you don't like. You were not forced to watch. If we continue to condemn things that we don't like mainly because we don't like them, we will never have a peaceful world. There is no competition, the sky is large enough for every bird to fly.

Having said that; these things happen all over the world, so stop making Nigeria seem like the only victim. The amount beauty pageants get in America is more than how much Harvard University's best graduating student would get. Messi and Ronaldo are paid higher than any medical doctor in Europe Porn actors and actresses earn more than those making academic videos. Music albums sells more than academic textbooks. Adele's video would receive more views on YouTube than a Toni Morrison lecture video. Beyonce is paid more to perform at a show than Ben Carson would ever be paid. It's a global thing; it's everywhere.

Finally, have you ever asked yourself who the sponsors of these shows are? The sponsors are mainly business people who are simply doing business. You can't expect them to invest in brilliant students because those ones would bring back little or no returns to the organization. The sponsors are simply for profits. In a school, an Olamide would get more audience than 5.0 GPA graduate. That's life, so who would get the higher sponsor from an organization that you is mainly for profit?

And yeah, there are many more Chike Obis, Wole Soyinkas, and Chinua Achebes coming. There are still very many Nigerian youths that are very much interested in education. Tope Folarin will make a good writer. Chimamanda Adichie has made it. Victor Olalusi has shocked the global stage in the field of medicine. Daniel Nkemelu's recent history in UI came together with three others from Unilag. Iye Omigbodun graduated among best students in Harvard. Seun Osewa has set himself apart. Habiba Daggash changed the story in Oxford. I can go and on. There are many others to come. The fact that you are not paid like the BBAs should not be an excuse. Focused people are doing well from Nigeria. You can't give up on Nigerians just yet. This generation will do greater than the past.
