Osinbajo Rejects N7b VP Residence, Says He Will Remain In Current Accommodation by ijebuloaded(m): 9:13pm On Feb 19, 2017
The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday said the Federal Government would at the appropriate time convert the new official residence being built for the Vice President to another use.

Osinbajo said this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, amid continued criticism of the project which is expected to gulp over N7b.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Dino Melaye, had disclosed recently that only the security post, also known as gateman’s house, in the building will gulp N250m.

This was revealed on Thursday by the ‎Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory.

But Akande said the decision to build the new residence and the controversial gatehouse preceded the present administration.

He said Osinbajo’s position had remained that his present official residence, Akinola Aguda House, is good enough for him.

He gave an indication that the 14 building in the residence which is already in about 85% completion stage would be used for another purpose.

The statement read, “For the umpteenth time, we like to clarify that the proposed plan of the immediate past administration to build a new official residence for the occupant of the Office of the Vice President, including the controversial gatehouse preceded this administration.

“The project which started in 2010, was initiated and funded by the immediate past administration, but had never featured in the two budget proposals of the Buhari administration: neither in the 2016 nor the 2017 spending plans.

“Any suggestion therefore that this project benefits our administration or that it reflects our spending style or preferences is not only misleading but blatantly false.

“Besides, the incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said publicly that he considers Aguda House, which he currently occupies, a befitting official residence for the Vice President and sufficient for his needs.

“While the project is now about 85% complete, the Federal Government, in the circumstances, will decide at the appropriate time what is the best use for the 14 buildings already on the project site.”

I think this is all wash, PMB did more than this during the election era, manipulating the gullibles to good opinions.

Politicians all do this when they need something, then they act opposite when they get what they want.

That report was simply a hatchet job. They made it seem as if Professor Osinbajo decided to build a gate with that amount, but did you notice that they didn't actually say that, they only implied it (because they knew that they won't be able to defend it).

From memory.

In 1982, President Shehu Shagari decided to stage the independence day parade in Abuja, rather than Lagos. This meant that the president had to have somewhere to stay and there had to be a venue for the ceremony. Therefore, Akinola Aguda House was quickly built to serve as the president's residence and the Old Parade Ground was built to host the ceremony. (Shagari was at Aguda House when the 1983 coup occurred).

President Babangida moved the federal government from Lagos to Abuja in November 1991. Some said that he moved the government in a hurry because of the violent 1989 SAP riots and the 1990 Orkar Coup (the idea was that Abuja was much safer because it was a civil service town with very few people at that time).

Babangida built the Aso Rock Villa, which would become the new residence for the president. Akinola Aguda House was supposed to have been rebuilt, so that it would serve as the president's guest house.

The vice president's residence was not ready when the federal government moved to Abuja, so a deal was reached. The Supreme Court was not ready to move to Abuja (which meant that the chief justice would continue to live and work in Lagos), but the chief justice's residence was ready, so it was decided that the chief of general staff (defacto vice president), Admiral Aikhomu, would live in the chief justice's residence until the vice president's residence was ready.

The vice president's residence was not built and Admiral Aikhomu, General Diya, Admiral Akhigbe and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lived in the chief justice's residence (Aguda House was also not rebuilt. They kept awarding and revoking the contract and starting and stopping work on the site throughout the 1990s).

Then Nigeria hosted the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting in 2003. President Obasanjo pushed through the reconstruction of Aguda House because the Queen was expected to stay there during the summit.

President Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar fell out during their second term (Obasanjo tried to remove Atiku from office). Around this time, the Senate judiciary committee complained that the vice president was living in the chief justice's house. Obasanjo therefore directed Atiku Abubakar to move into Aguda House (which is in the Aso Rock complex). Atiku didn't trust Obasanjo and he also didn't want to live so close to Obasanjo, so he moved into his own private residence instead.

Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan won the 2007 election. Before they were sworn in, Niger Delta militants attacked Goodluck Jonathan's country home in Bayelsa. The national security adviser therefore advised President Obasanjo to move Vice President Elect Goodluck Jonathan into the Aguda House, which is in the Aso Rock complex. Goodluck Jonathan continued to live in Aguda House when he was sworn in as vicepresident and every vice president since then has lived at Aguda House.

The Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan administrations were determined to complete the vice president's residence, but the project has been hampered by the huge cost involved. The building had been almost completed by 2013, but the government then proposed additions to the complex (including a new security gate and banquet hall) and these amendments almost doubled the cost of the project. It caused a huge scandal and the National Assembly refused to approve it. It is that same security gate that the newspaper is referring to (and trying to imply that Professor Osinbajo is responsible for proposing).

This is the man who was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who drafted JagaBandit's bogus pension law in 2007.

daywalker02:
[b]According to a Lagos Pension Law approved by former governor Bola Tinubu in 2007, a former governor will enjoy the following benefits for life: Two houses, one in Lagos and another in Abuja. (Property experts estimates such a house in Lagos to cost N500 million and Abuja N700 million.)

Others are six brand new cars replaceable every three years; furniture allowance of 300 percent of annual salary to be paid every two years, and a close to N2.5 million as pension (about N30 million pension annually).

He will also enjoy security detail, free medicals including for his immediate families.

Other benefits are 10 percent house maintenance, 30 percent car maintenance, 10 percent entertainment, 20 percent utility, and several domestic staff.

Nigeria's Obasanjo, his Untouchables, and the $16 Billion Power Scam

More from: http://www.africaundisguised.com/newsportal/story/nigerias-obasanjo-his-untouchables-and-16-billion-power-scam

**********************************************************

Keep away from Obasanjo, he wasted $16 billion on power Owie tells Buhari

Senator Roland Owie has blasted ex President Olusegun Obasanjo over his perceived posture to influence the incoming administration of President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to a Think-tank report submitted to Buhari by a team of technocrats put together by Obasanjo, Owie described the document as needless.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Owie, who is also a former Chief Whip of the Senate, asked: ”How can Obasanjo be preparing a blueprint for Buhari? A Bini parable says, ‘how can an impotent man get medicine for his brother, who suffers weak erection?’”

Expressing disappointment at Buhari’s romance with Obasanjo, Owie said “Obasanjo will tell the world that the solutions he prescribed for fixing Nigeria were ignored.”

Continuing he said, “I just read that Obasanjo’s think-tank has submitted a blueprint to Buhari. Blue what?

“I am shocked that great Nigerians of the likes of Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Dr. Idika Kalu and Dr. Christopher Kolade were involved. That Obasanjo is linked to the blue-print, it will be a document of blackmail to Buhari very soon.

“Wonders will never end! How can Obasanjo who allegedly wasted eight years in government pursuing perceived enemies, and tried to ruin the legislative and judiciary arms of government in Nigeria; wasted $16 billion on power and not a single kilowatt of energy was produced, destroyed Aladja Steel, Itakpe Steel, Ajaokuta Steel, NITEL, just to mention a few FGN parastatals, now begin to advise Buhari?

“How can Obasanjo, whose government received, in one year, a revenue equivalent of the total revenue that IBB regime received in eight years, yet, nothing to show for it, be handing over blue-print to the in-coming administration?
