Well as for me, I will rather be acting Porn than to join any Army other than that of my dear Fatherland Nigeria.

The fact that the present Nigeria is not worth living for does not mean the future of Nigeria is not worth dying for.

Ok, this is riddled with a bit of wrong information, to join the Military on active or reserve duty you don't have to be a citizen, all you need is a green card. The only disadvantage is that you won't make officer cadre without being a citizen. Your info about using it as a direct path to citizenship is correct.

You don't have to be a citizen to join a US army unless she is going for Marine and to be a US citizen you will have to apply and go through the processes just like everyone else..It is not automatically..if not people will take the advantage join the army just to gain the citizenship and then quit right after that..
Sorry but you are wrong , what I explained above is first hand information from people that got in the US army in my school. And people that where gearing up to join before the program closed.
I also plan joining as soon as it is reopened , am talking about ROTC.

Don't doubt.

You don't have to be a citizen to join the USArmy. However, joining has an accelerated path to citizenship.

She probably came in via visa lottery or is/was married to a citizen.

The same thing she did is possible to any Nigerian, you just need to apply yourself and be focused.

What I've yet to see and routinely look for is a Nigerian surname (preferably Yoruba) on a US fighter jet.

Go through the pictures again her name is Awoyemi

Someone should please clarify my doubts o.. How did this lady do it?
Was she a citizen of the States before or she became one after willing to join the army or after she joined the army, or she left for the states immediately after her secondary school here in naija which gave her the leverage to do so, or what exactly?
Please explain. How was this possible?

There are a number of ways she could have done it. First, she could have moved to United States, gotten her green card, become a citizen, and then joined the army. She could have been a U.S. citizen already and just moved back to America. Third, I've heard the U.S. will make you a citizen if you join their military. A number of my sibling's friends have done this. If you complete one tour, usually four to six years, you can become a citizen.

its pretty easy, just get a Visa to the US first, Be a gud friend with a Nigerian ambassador( easy, they don play big man over there).

I think you need to spend atleast two years for the army. its being long so there might be slight changes.

its nice though cause na weekend soldier you go be

Thanks so much for the explanation.

A number of Nations recruit directly into thier armed forces particularly from countries with similar ideological and cultural identities.

I know the British armed forces recruited from Ghana and the Gambia directly up until about 4/5years ago.

I know they didn't come to Nigeria, possibly because they would have been overwhelmed and it would have been a national embarrassment.

The USA practices similar approaches in recruitment. Possibly the best route is as a student signing up for reserve officer training which will mean extra cash and if you sign up accelerated citizenship.

Wow, that's incredible.
BTW, can a student who goes to the US for a MASTERS degree use this method?

You don't need to be a citizen to join either the US Army or the British Army. There are certain soldier roles that are open to anyone legally living in either countries, but officer roles are exclusively for citizens.

I never knew this. Thanks so much sir.

If the job you are doing is very important and they need you, they have a right to hold on to you and stop you from joining other branch. It means you have to fulfill your contract. Active contract is 4 yrs, reserve is 6 yrs. When your contract expires, you have a choice to keep renewing it until you retire after 20 yrs or get out after your first contract. If your commander release you, then you can join other branch before your contract expires.

The primary reason why Nigerians and some other foreigners in the US enlisted in the USarmy is that, Military is the fastest way to citizenship. Sometimes, foreigners get enslaved when they marry wrong Americans. Your partner may be requesting for every money you make and you dare not talk.Your partner may bring men to the house you are paying its bills, you dare not raise your hands. Some get fed up and think they can continue like that for 5 yrs before green card turns citizen, that is why they go enlist. After 9 weeks of military training in which a typical Naija guy can withstand, you will become a citizen..Naija run away from their misery after they return from the training.

Green card can join all their branches of military (Army, Airforce, Navy, Marines)

Any soldier could be deployed to war zones (Iraq/Afghanistan) but the chance is very low if you are in the reserves. Remember, when you are deployed, you will only do the job you are trained to do. Some are cook. Some are infantry. Some are medics. Some are Engineers. Some are pastors.

That's the surest way out then. We can even use this method to train our soldiers, if only the government can think deep and that's if those who've gone would be willing to come back, lol.

Can one renew his/her visa while waiting for the completion of the tour? Maybe the individual got a student visa or visa with a shorter duration. You understand me?

Even if it's for citizenship, I do not see a reason why any sane person will sign up to join the army of a foreign country so that you can protect people that you have no cultural or family ties with.

For one's safety, it would be better if it were some country that hardly ever goes to war. Not the US army that's always at war.

I pity her.

Wow! I'm so happy with this kind explanation. Thanks very much sir. I've always been wondering how possible it would be to join the US army. I so much love them.
One more question sir
1. After joining the reserve and gaining a citizenship, can one later cross to another branch within the military and become an active member?
2. Will the reserves go to war or participate in major conflicts even when the need arises?
1)Yes u can cross over after you have served some years, I'm very sure. Both have stipulated times which you have to serve , I'm not sure about the years but I think after 4 to 6 years you can back out , or continue full-time.
2)yes Na , that's why they are the reserve , when the army needs manpower especially during war and conflict , sharp sharp you will be deployed to battle. But don't fear ,us soldiers don't die like chickens.
I can ask more questions on your behalf , their office is across the street I live.
I spoke with them in a career fair I attended, they said at the moment they are not recruiting foreigners , just people with green card/citizenship/pr.

I never said anything is automatic , you have to pass the course/program like the normal naija army entry programme ,where you do physical tests , endurance training e.t.c . But if you train and prepare for it , you can easily make it in .
As for absconding after getting citizenship , you can never cheat the USA. When you join you sign a contract. If you leave the army after getting citizenship , your citizenship can be terminated, or nobody might be able to employ you since it shows in your record that you think your smart.Mhen the consequences are grave.
