General things to be check by the transporter before loading a container

The empty container received is clean, dry and free from any unusual smells, stains on the floorboard.

No roof board.

The doors shut tight and without gaps.

The lock rods closed and locked properly.

The slits for the seals are present useable.

Floorboard is not cracked or broken.

Container Service Charges (CSC or THC) are additional costs, on top of the sea freight, charged by the shipping company for the handling of containers at the container terminal before being loaded onboard a vessel.

Examples include the unloading of the container from a truck, stacking and transport from the stacking location to just below the crane. This concerns FCL (Full Container Load) shipments.

VGM

The Shipper has to provide to the ocean carrier the Verified Gross Mass (Weight) of
the Container, including cargo weight, weight of all loading equipment and materials,
dunnage and the tare weight of the container) along with a Signature (can be
electronic) identifying the person responsible for the declared weight.

This information has to be provided to the carrier, most likely before delivery to the
carrier's port terminal.
