With so much happening in our world daily, destabilization and uncertainty in our environment, work, leadership, security, Trump, Brexit and many other morden day disruptions, it’s become almost impossible for us to try and predict accurately the twist or turns that our life might take at any given time as we continue in this journey of life.

Most of these uncertainties has ended up giving several people a false sense of stability, safety and security, yet while we all seem to struggle daily, and strive to provide for our families in the mist of all this earthly chaos, some people seem to always thrive within the confounds of all this uncertainty and adversity and some people don’t. So, I ask, what is it that those people who thrive do different from those that don’t, or what distinguishes the people that perform exceptionally well in this environment from those that don’t.

How do did they thrive from the position of vulnerability, adversity and uncertainty, weathering all the same storms we all faced, yet, don’t just mainly survive like others, but prevail in their chosen fields, neither do they simply succeed, but excel within the same chaotic environment that we all find ourselves living within. One answer is that they are aware that they face all this adversity and uncertainty they cannot control and will continue to do so, but in the same vein, they reject or disagree with the fact that forces outside their control or chance events will determine their outcome in life or their destiny.

The other answer, I believe we can easily find in the word “Consistency”. Consistency could be defined as the quality of achieving a level of performance which does not vary greatly in quality over time. The consistency we put into our chosen task or goals is what I believe differentiates us from one another, and ultimately separates the high achievers from lower level performers.

Few examples, two students being thought over a semester at university, both must attended lectures and tutorials the same number of times, both live in the student accommodation on campus, both travel the same amount of distance to lectures, yet one decides to study a module regularly even when there’s no test or assignment due, while one waits for the date of the exams or test to be announced before he dare takes a look at his lecture notes. The result of which student will do better is quite clear that it would be the first.

Or two guys who decided to embark on a 500 miles walk to a destination, they were to travel through all sorts of weather conditions and rough terrains to arrive at their destination, with both guys setting off from the same starting point, the first guy decides to pace himself and walks only 25 miles every single day, in the sun, cold, rain, felling sick or strong, wind in front or wind behind him, whatever the condition or situation he walks his 25 miles then sets up camp wherever that 25 miles ends in preparation for the next day’s walk till he arrived at the final destination. The second guy, equally excited about the adventure starts off from the same camp location and in his excitement walks for 50 miles on the first day, 50 miles the second day, but when the weather became unfavourable on the third and fourth day, he remained inside his tent, then on a few other days he only managed to do 20 miles due to a split in his toe, and sometimes when he just didn’t feel up to it he’ll walk for 15, 30 or 10 miles respectively , so his entire pattern of walk was disjointed and not consistent…I shouldn’t t need to ask who you think would arrive at the destination first, and correctly so, by a far stretch of margin too.

With the mindset that practice things in a consistent manner, we’ll develop a clear-cut view of the goal we want to achieve which inevitably keeps us on track, it also provides us with the power to overcome the discomfort of committing to a level of performance regardless of the conditions we face and incidentally keeps us on the same level of performance even when things are favourable and good.

Confidence in our ability to perform well and remain on top of our field doesn’t come from motivational speeches or blind hope. It comes from being consist in everything we do through all situations and circumstances. #OurDailyDose
