Why are they always fighting?. I hear of this like every year.

It's horrible and discredit the people of the State.
My Dear, the reason for the clash is deep rooted into lands and boundaries. If i explain to you it may appear bias being that I am a stakeholder in Okrika. But about a decade ago, there was a serious communal clash and that led to some gentleman agreement and understanding between both groups, mediated by the then military government of Sani Abacha and that of Rivers state. It is a shame that the Elemes have choosen to spill the first blood.

It is saddening. I wish they maintain the peace pact.

I also pray it doesn't degenerate.

Okrikans are peaceloving and law-abiding people. We are not a violent group...

The State government should call them to dialogue. This isn't good and thanks for the insight.

This act by some misguided youths of Eleme against the good and peace loving people of Okrika is irresponsible and highly condemnable. It is a shame that despite the bond of friendship between both groups, Eleme youths would take to violence against their innocent Okrika neighbours. Government must fish out perpetrators

Peace and Loving people of Okrika? Not trying to support the violence but is it not the same Okrikas that have been encroaching the boundaries with Eleme? Last year, indigenes of Ekporo were driven from their town by Okrikas.. Okrika that is surrounded by water claiming ownership of lands? Anyone who knows the history of the rivalry between these two would understand the greed of the Okrikas.

Man, Okrikans are not landgrabbers. That is a fact that we must recognise.

While it is true that Okrika is an Island, it is also a fallacy to claim that we don't have other lands. I won't speak much on any disputed territory because I may appear bias, but I will insist that the proper thing be done to seek redress by both parties.

Eleme MUST respect the gentleman pact it entered with Okrika in the nineties so that we sustain the peaceful coexistence we hitherto enjoy. You know that when it comes to violence, they suffer the most.

Okrikans are peaceful people.

They have started again, I don't know why these foolish youths always drive away progress from their lands.

They re able bodied but lazy, they dont like to do anything for themselves, just to go from office to office, shop to shop to threaten the very people who are bringing development to their places.

That same pact that the Okrikans have been violating for years! I want you to name a single situation after the pact that the people of Eleme decided to encroach any land belonging to the Okrikas? Rather they've been trying for years to defend their lands.

The same thing with the neighbouring Ogoni towns. It is always the Okrikas that pull the first shots. Go way back and study the cause of the conflict, you'd know how violent your people are. You claim the People of Eleme spilled the first blood after the pact? My dear, this is not the first time it has happened after the pact. I don't know how well you've been following this issue but it has always been the Okrikas making moves.

The Okrikas know they don't have enough land that is why to keep up with development and expansion, they've been constantly encroaching lands belonging to their neighbours. Do you expect their neighbours to keep silent and watch their farmlands and forest taken away?

2015/2016 Alone : The Okrikas attacked Tai (Seme, Gio etc) , Attacked and took over the community of Ekporo killing the chiefs and youth leaders, tried attacking Onne (Which is impossible to take over) .

And you come on Nairaland to give claims that your people are loving and peaceful while history and facts has proven otherwise.

Where, when and how did this happen?
The Okrikans as we all know are surrounded by water and have less lands hence they keep encroaching on Eleme lands...need I remind you that the indigenes of Ekporo in Eleme have long been chased from their community and the community declared a military zone .....A similar thing happened to the indigenes of Alode where a vast area of their farmlands were forcefully taken from them (courtesy of the former first lady) and sold out to whoever cared to buy.

south south guys really hate themselves .
Either they are blowing up pipe lines and causing oil Spillage which in turn pollute their waters and soil so that they can't have good farm yield or they are fighting one another. Rivers and fight are like 5&6.

Thank you for your respectable insight. Till today the people of Ekporo Eleme are refugees and have been unable to return to their homeland due to the "Peace loving people of Ogu Bolo". Eleme land is constantly being encroached upon from Ekporo to Alesa. Senseless killing is not the solution but let this not be an excuse to continue the land grabbing.

So are you saying that the gentlemen's agreement didn't include that of Ekporo? You are aware of their displacement at the hands of Ogu/Bolo right? Isn't that a violation? And wouldn't that violation be the first breach against Okrika and not Eleme as you are insinuating?
