Acting President Yemi Osinbajo inspected toilets and carousel during a surprise visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, on Thursday.

Osinbajo was accompanied on the tour of the airport’s facilities by Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation.

Ephraim Nwodo, general manager, mechanical, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), conducted Osinbajo round the airport.

The facilities inspected by the acting president included the conveyor belt, travollator, visa on arrival section, screening machines and the new departure terminal, which is under construction.

Laolu Akande, Osinbajo’s spokesman, said the acting president also inspected toilets and carousel.

Osinbajo expressed dissatisfaction with the state of some of the facilities, saying there was need to urgently make them function at optimal level.

Addressing reporters at the end of the visit, Osinbajo maintained that the federal government was committed to improving the ease of doing business in the country.

“The airport is one of the major places where we need to ensure that facilities are working and that things are being done properly,” he said.

“So, we have looked around and have seen quite a few of the equipment.

“There are many things that need to be done and need to be corrected and we have to work on them.’’

Also speaking, Sirika said he was in agreement with the observations raised by the acting president.

“I agree with the acting president a hundred per cent that work needs to be done to improve our airport and that is why we are here,” he said.

On Tuesday, Osinbajo chaired the expanded meeting of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBC) attended by Senate President Bukola Sakari and Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

He had told the media after the four-hour meeting that two bills targeted at making doing business in Nigeria easier will be passed by the national assembly within 60 days.

If the president or his vice has the time to inspect airports, then we'll continue to chase our collective tails like a foolish cat would do. What are the ministers of aviation doing? What are the airport managers doing? I am sorry, but this is an unnecessary waste of president's precious time. There are better things Osinbajo could have been doing to get Naija running better. He should have been busy brainstorming with the country's economic team about how to stop the already battered economy from further steep slide into depression. But he left Aso Villa to come to MMIA to inspect the conveyor belt? While at it, did he also check to be sure the toilets can flush and are stocked with tissue papers? I guess he also had time to inspect the floors to be certain that they are washed & buffed clean. grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin

How many things can the president personally inspect?

If the president has to always go about inspecting every little thing then there is a problem somewhere.

Of what use are the ministers and those responsible for taking care of those things?

No you didn't get the point. that is called leading by example. Most of us applauding this know that an average person wants to be the hero. Many people will try to emulate this, from Ministers, governors, senators, directors etc, even the workers will get their acts straight if they know a vip can pay them an unscheduled visit. Imagine that for a minute and think of the effects. So join us in saluting this casual but very important action by the acting president. We all have a part to play in making this country great. Whether as leaders or followers

Now you are talking.
Earlier on you made it look like the president has to inspect everything by himself.

Though the acting president have been doing great for the past few weeks, but inspecting airport toilets; Neah this is a big NO for me. The aviation minister should be the right person to do that.

Good acting president, all the best sir.

Still wishing PMB a speedy recovery though. I kind of miss president buhari.

Good

Those toilets are an embarrassment I have not seen a par with them, even Guinea and Senegal that have an airport looking like Chisco and Ekene Dili Chukwu motor park have got a better toilet.

Public toilets in Nigeria are generally not a sight to behold.

The toilet at that airport (MMA Lagos) is fair at the departure above, bit the arrival below, just before the UBA ATM behind Etisalat and MTN stand is a disgrace to the Federal Republic if Nigeria, knowing well that is the first access

It would be great to curb the extortions travelers go through from the airport officials. That's one thing most travelers hate about Nigerian airports, unfortunately that what they first observe when they are visiting Nigeria.

Its not the duty of the VP to inspect airport toilets. The VP has a lot to do to make sure the airport (not just toilets) get busy.

Nice day man.

There's an aviation minister and minister of state for aviation. If Osinbajo was asking questions about the safety of the tarmac, landing equipments, airport security it would be better. Toilets! That's the job of the damn FAAN and the aviation ministry.
