Democracy Of Arms In Nigeria!!! by GenNext(m): 11:21pm On Feb 24, 2017
Nepotism among the bourgeoisie, politicians and corruption in the Armed forces and other security agencies has finally pave way for breach of security in Nigeria, which in turn facilitate the free inflow of illegal arms and other sophisticated weapons in the country.

The unchecked free flow of arms in the country among other devastating consequences, undermines peace, intensifies violence and impact on crime. The increasing availability of weapons has helped drives the rising of insecurity and crime in Nigeria.

Guns are commonly used to commit range of violence acts, like Terrorism, Pipeline vandalism, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery and the unnecessary killings in the southern Kaduna, the government should underscore the scale of problems in the context of a country not at war!!!

To my point of view, sixty five percent (65%) of the country is a washed with illicit fire arms most especially the North and South South part of Nigeria. The presence of guns is felt and its having wide range of repercussions in all parts of the country, mostly the above mentioned geopolitical zones where wielding of guns is common and are used to commit high degree of violence...

Violent incidents involving fire arms appears to be sharply on the rise and high number of casualties is being recorded. Act of Insurgency, Fulani herdsmen killing, including Armed robbery, Militancy, Kidnapping and other forms of crime involving fire arms are reported daily on News, Social Media and News papers.

With the recent discovery of Six Hundred sixty one (661) fire arms by the Customs at mile 2 Lagos, Nigeria on the 30th January 2017. This should have given the government a serious concern that such huge uncontrollable amount of fire arms posed a significant threat to the stability of the nation and undermine national security.

The government should take a proactive measures in controlling the inflow of illegal fire arms to avert future crisis, lost of life and properties.

Take a look at rate of damage perpetrated by Boko Haram in the north east, the destruction and vandalization of pipelines in the Niger Delta by Avengers and cohorts, the rate of kidnapping, armed robbery in Lagos, Ogun state and other parts of the country. All these crimes are made possible and easy to perpetrate due to the free inflow of arms at their disposal.

In the face of widespread of armed violence and crime, the Nigerian government has failed to provide adequate security in checking what comes into the country through sea, land and air because most of the weapons are imported into the country by those at the top who hired some youths and arm them with guns to cause rift during elections and other political gathering for their own benefits.

Till date the government has not pursue a comprehensive approach to curtail the widespread circulation of arm and the use to perpetrate illegal activities by the youths.
