Chai..... I should have started with Blender or 3Ds Max instead of Maya 2017. Now I can't go back. Very difficult to manipulate this Arnold Rendering Engine and no hope using Mentalray. Autodesk una no try.
Anyone to help me with valid patch, keygene and serial key of Maya2016 as the ones I downloaded aren't working.

I have never believed in mental ray. But Arnold is supposed to be the new standard. I myself find it hard to use. i don't just like it.

If u live around Lagos. u should try Computer village for the Maya or re download its torrent from torlock.com

That moment when sleep is deferred.

One of the things that scares me off blender is the numerous nodes you have to connect just to build a shader.
Infact they all the same houdini, maya....except modo i guess.

I think this apeman ..whom I will Christen Humphrey, will be a coal mine worker. the sort that work underground. I have a great aunt married to a Coal digger at Iva valley, Enugu

I discovered that I cannot achieve subsurface scattering . Instead I am going for a Fresnel on his body. I am just not good with Shadin.

One thing I noted also x that, in my earnestness to churn out more xters, I often neglect the basic things. I should have learned Cycles shading plus lightning techniques before jumping into Sculpting.

And honesty, I am going to calm down and start all over. I want to as perfect as those Gnomon guys. feel so intimidated when I see there works.

I pity that white Singlet... its gonna get stained.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 4:03pm On Jul 05, 2017
done with textures and the shaders I managed to construe
now is time for small scraggly hair.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 1:16am On Jul 09, 2017
Well am Through at Humphrey The Tin Miner.

Couldn't complete the fur over his body. My System is getting fever.

Personal Milestones with this revision include:

Stitch making and Tatoos and blending of materials.

There are still areas to cover as regards material shaders.

And I lost 50% of my sculpt details when I transfered it to cycles. I don't know why Micro displacement (textures) does not work properly with my Cycles . All those time spwnt sculpting details watered down.

I was advised to go into Vray or Arnold but I have grown into cycles shadin network and not willin to switch again to another renderer.

A special thanks to Reynantez and my Chief Mentor OKX.

I began this guy last January (inspired by Kong: Skull island trailer, though I didn't keep to the exact mascot) as my first non tutorial aided sculpt. its obvious there are lapses in anatomy esp the upper arm muscles. but its a first try.

In my next project I will explore Texture projection. Tired of painting manually sef...

Next project x Wonder Woman. That's like the best Movie this Quarter.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 9:22am On Jul 13, 2017
Now for the fourth and final revision of an old er sculpt... the Jesus bust.

I am going via this revisions cos I want to upgrade my portfolio, u know. imbibe the little things I picked along in the course of six months.

So major areas to explore with this revision include:
1. Subsurface scattering. I am researching and building a new method for this. I will combine the existing ones from Logana and try to see what I will achieve.

2. Eyes.
I receive a nerve shattering critique from a another mentor about the nature of my eyes. He said and I quote : ur eyes are always like fish shape. its like u just dug holes and put spheres in them. its Neva like that. think of it as a lozenge shape".
And so I went back and download a new tut specifically for eyes. Boy. it was a new exposition. I learnt how to tighten the corners and the 3 files of muscle that makes the eye region.

3. I had a minor advance in my hair strands.
I want to do an Afro kinky hair but still running into hiccups and it forced me not to showcase a Negro character (a farm hand) I did over the week. Not just the hair. African skin is pure wahala. I keep coming up pure black or pure brown.....and its Neva like that. I will explore more of texture projection before showcasing the African Farm help. it will begin the start of a new series with Poor rural settings as theme.

I decided to suspend the Wonder Woman planned abi initio. I mistakenly went to blenderArtist and discorverd that nearly 3 quarters of the Masters there had Wonder Woman in various styles. I pulled out of the fad. hate fads.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 10:51pm On Jul 13, 2017
update...one eye surprise..

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 2:29am On Jul 14, 2017
With this new revision I'll christen him Hosier, The Bullet eye Prophet.

What would I do without tattoos? Notin

The new stuffs I picked along must always appear on all my models. They will all have tattoos...

Now completing my hair groom and Sss. I have a new skin. Completely mine. phew I won't have to bother about it again. took almost 2 hrs to get it right.

I will create a jeans material without textures. u know, procedural method. I Still want to use this opportunity to tune my Cycles shader skill set.

I wish I can create an Eye shader, u know , moist and organically transparent. But I Don't know how...

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 9:15am On Jul 14, 2017
Alright through with the tattoos and beard with twisted ends.
You all should try Blender mehn...almost perfect (OK, eye shader x a headache there) and free

So I made the eyes glass instead... maybe I will improve on a next project as regards it.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 3:34pm On Jul 14, 2017
through with the Skin shading
...

will kook into eye lashes in a lot more detail in next project

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 3:42pm On Jul 14, 2017
Working On the jeans.

Skin x definitely better than d one used in Logana and d Christ bust and I have achieved subsurface scattering. Guide ur eyes to Hosiers ear tips to notice that transmission of light.
Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 8:03am On Jul 15, 2017
Now have my Jeans.

So with this revision, I summoned a new personality from the Christ bust. This marks my last revision.

Milestone achieved:
- Better skin and Sss.
Eye and skin shaders are the latest ish this year for most CGi artists this year. just, check the latest issue of 3DArtist to confirm.

- Better knowledge of Eyes

- Procedural generation of Jean Material

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 1:59am On Jul 21, 2017
New Series....Afro Morphology.

I am beginning texture projection with this new sculpt. Aldo trying to get texture scans off pixsbay.

So here x d WIP
yet to work on d eye shape.

Major goal of this Series include:
. Texture projection

. Afro kinky hair

. African face structure

. African Skin

...Eye lashes

...A more complex apparel and paraphernalia.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 6:27pm On Jul 26, 2017
Getting delayed. Phcn behaving more like a baby without pancreas.

So I was trying to do a helmet. In a next project I should ensure to work with a concept illustration instead of rambling at ideas.

Thanks. A little question ; which rendered do you believe in that is easier to used compared to Arnold.
Also I have downgraded to Maya2016.
I never get time for Arnold's wahala

check Nvidias iray or Keystone .

Marmoset is also good. has preset skin shaders and moistness shaders too. but its only for presentation. u can't use it to render out animations.

I would ve advised u to use cycles ( that's my default and only versatile renderer) but the learning curve x super high.

meanwhile, phcn is so petulant these days....for those who can, enjoy these graphite drawings.

I don't often vibe for stylized characters but this piece is charming.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 9:53am On Aug 08, 2017
gradually, getting to terms with this sculpt. This is now a game xter posee for a game dev.

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by OKX(m): 12:35am On Aug 09, 2017
nice.
why don't you do another variation where u beef up his lower body to match the musculature of his torso.
it will make for an interesting comparison.
possibly let his loincloth show the wear and tear of battle

nijabazaar:

there is no average 3d software, even Sketch isn't!...unless Element3D wink

the system you should have depends on the area of CG you are versatile in.

If your first exposure to CG is physics simulation then you would ned a system with at least 12GB of RAM and a dedicated Nvidia card of up to 4GB .

If it is just character modelling and rigging, a 6GB RAM can stand you.

If you are talking about compositing, Think of at least 8GB of RAM and lots of Hard drive space.
not necessarily

a 4gb-8gb ram, with atleats 1gb vram will handle, all cgi related apps, like maya, houdini, lightwave 3D and co
Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by OKX(m): 9:34pm On Aug 09, 2017
@adegeye
nija's post is actually more accurate. the specs u outline will not even let u install Maya 2017 and use it optimally.
it also depends on which years version of the particular software u wish to install.

i had to upgrade my 4gb nvidia quadro fx5800 when i installed Maya 2014, and now i have to upgrade my GeForce GTX 650 to the GeForce GTX1050 because the 650 isnt certified for Maya 2017 and limits its use.

so it really does depend on what u wish to do with the software.
the last time i used a system with 4GB RAM was with Maya 8.5 i think, in 2007
unless you want to click a button and take a nap before it updates, lol
i never even touched fur, cloth or dynamics back then with my system specs

Trying to fit a bionic something to his amputated knee...getting super slow undecided.

this variation is gonna wear just a pant and weapons a LA carte.

Later on I will start detailing. Making things rough and creating them disp maps. Then I will texture. I wish I can get a Cintiq Tablet. everyone seem to have it except me. I am going to steal, I promise angry

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 1:05pm On Aug 17, 2017
What have I been doing?

Not in for almost 3 days. I am tired of complaining of Phcn. Feels like I am getting the complaint gene sef.

Well today, chaffing on the bright bone of chance, I got some power and did a rather quick detailing.

- so, I reformed d eyes, add in more folds
- aged him a bit
- got him a belt or two....I luv belts.
- duplicated him ( for my personal use) and added a prosthetic leg to that version.
- modeled a simple shoe too.

- added pores and Exported all my Normals.
- Prepared the cavity and disp maps for Unity too.
Phew....

Its almost an orgasmic outburst of sculpting under 2 and a half hrs. I guess one performs better under constraints. I hail NEPA for being the tick/lice up the rectum.

I can't afford a Generator.... its super weird.

3rd xter for the game series...

This one will get a cloak and sachel.
I am deferring texturing until i get all the characters (3 of em) straight out.

How I wish I can give this new guy a kaftan instead but its not in the brief...

Re: My Cabinet Of 3D Curiosities by nijabazaar: 7:02pm On Aug 19, 2017
WIP .

Bad topology and a cloak wt ears...lol

Using this opportunity to announce that I will be switching to Corona. . it got a fine moistness shader plus the deep blacks of Cycle. I will only now use Cycles once there x hair

I am gonna sleep for a while.

What have I been doing?

A lot x on my hands...

But I took a nice break today to refocus on hands. If u think the eye x complicated.... No. Think hands.
