The Syrian army made a breakthrough on Monday against the jihadists of the Islamic State (EI) group in the northern province of Aleppo and towards the ancient city of Palmyra (center), which it had lost in December.


In a fortnight, the Syrian army seized 18 villages including Tadef, south of the town of Al-Bab, a former fief of the EI, which was conquered last Thursday by the Turkish army allied with Syrian rebels, A source of security in Damascus told AFP on Monday.

According to the source, the army has taken control of 600 square kilometers in this part of the province of Aleppo, in northern Syria.
Rami Abdel Rahmane, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), confirmed the move, saying that the EI had withdrawn pre-emptively 23 new localities in the area before the army Take.
