Establishment workers of the Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja on Monday and said that they were not going to work with the National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The 127 workers, in their statement which was read on their behalf by the National Director of Administration of the party, Mr. Gurama Bawa, said that the workers would not assume office until Supreme Court rules on the leadership crisis in the party.


At their meeting, which was held at the temporary office of the party opened by the sacked National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the workers also said that they expected all members of the National Working Committee to resume with Sheriff.

Sheriff, after the meeting of his NWC last week Wednesday, had appealed to the workers to resume their duties at the party’s national secretariat.

The secretariat, which had been locked since May last year, was forced open by Sheriff a few days ago.

Bawa said that the crisis in the party was telling on the workers , adding that they were not being paid as at when due.

He said, “To put it mildly, one of the major casualties of this power struggle has been the staff of the PDP national secretariat, many of whom have spent 17 years of their working life striving to establish and grow the bureaucracy of the party.

“They have witnessed their salaries wither away, receiving just about 32.50 per cent of their 2015 salaries. Their housing, transport, and other allowances have all fallen into arrears with many members of staff thrown out of their accommodations by landlords.

“Members of staff are desirous of resuming work after having been made victim of problems they never caused but are concerned about their safety.”
