Q: After planting, can I still do soil test??

ANS: One of the question our esteem customer ask. The answer is NO!!
After planting you can still sample the soil on your farm land test for your soil fertility. The test is very much relevant and result is useful more after planting....reason(s) are in one of our post above.

The best decision on preplanting, planting and post planting depends on the soil analysis outcome

Q: What is the essence of knowing my soil Particle size distribution??

ANS: The soil particle size distribution indicates whether or not the soil will allow easy access of water and air through its pore spaces, and this will help the plant root to tap water and nutrient well.

Consider a farm land with a percentage of sand (76.8%), silt (8.0%) and clay (15.2%), This soil perticles size distribution shows the soil will be able to hold water for a long period of time during the raining season. However, application of organic manure to the soil will help the soil to retain more moisture for up to six to eight weeks if rain seize during the raining season period.

So if you observe your farm land goes dry just after rain fall leading to stunted growth, distress looking crop and yellow colouration of the newly emerging leaf, then it is wise to consult us to run a soil test on that farm land to know how best to ameliorate the soil.

Cheers!!

Are you aware that it only when a soil analysis is done on your soil that you can know the exert Qty of fertilizer to add to your soil, type of fertilizer to add, method of applying it. Also, are you aware that it only when a soil test is conducted that you could figure out the method of planting TME419 stem that is suitable for your farm soil

Lots of decision to take on your farm depend on your soil analysis out come

Q: Is the Analysis report of my farm valid for ever?

ANS: If you analyse your farm land soil this season, you could use the report to take vital decision this season. After the season am afraid it may be agronomically wrong to consult the Analysis report to take vital decision on the farm.

Why Becacause after the season the soil would have gone through lots of Ecological changes as a result of Environmental activities, Biological activities and Human activities. So if you consult us for a comprehensive soil analysis last season, please do not use the Analysis report to take any vital decision on your farm this season as that will be erroneous.

As a matter of fact, it is Agronomically right to retest your soil fertility every season.

Cheers!!

In preparation for the next coming season, one very vital preplanting operation that should be done is checking for the fertility of your farmland soil. For more detail contact kenfarm
Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 8:06am On Sep 20, 2018
are in Ibadan the south west zone of Nigeria......soil test is simply checking for how fertile your farm soil is. When you know the level of all the nutrient in the soil, your soil class, whether or not the nutrient can be release to the crop for uptatake and many more info about your farm soil, you are following Agronomical best practise. The knowledge of your soil fertility help farmers to:
1. Know type of fertilizer to apply, what Qty, when to apply and what method of application to adopt
2. It helps farmer know what intervention measure to take when your crop is looking distressed
3. It helps the farmer to predict safely expected yield
4. It helps farmers to know whether or not the soil needs amelioration before planting
5. It helps farmers to manage the crop
6. It help farmers to know if the farm soil can be used for mix cropping and which crop can be intercroped.
I can go on and on......

Kenfarm must quickly say not all soil test is standardized to help you know all the above. Do not patronise cheap and substandard soil fertility testing expert .....kenfarm pride herself in the expertise put into our clients soil fertility test. For more detail, contact us via:
kenfarm2020@gmail.com or call the phone line on our signature asap.

........Join the new generation farmers who wouldn't take any valid decision on their farm until the farm soil fertility is ascertain.

Ecological factors, global warming cum Human spacial pattern have degraded our land, hence, there is urgent need to know the level of degradation of that farm soil before putting to use.

Somebody ask me if the mobile soil test is accurate? My response is a big NO!! Why??

1. It do not give an accurate data report of the soil fertility
2. It can not measure or give the CEC value....the CEC value Indicate whether or not you Macro and micro element if available will be realised into the soil
3. It does not indicate the % of macro and micro element
4. It does not indicate the soil textural class
5. If you are a scientist, you will understand that you can not use a data gotten from a portion of your land to generalise. I mean you can not deep the mobile soil tester into a portion of the land and use the result outcome to generalise for the whole farm. That is gross erroneous. Rather the test we do at kenfarm is volumetric analysis where sample of soil is picked from the whole farm land, processed and taken to the lab for analysis. The result is a true picture of the whole farm land.

Note that you can not keep using this mobile tester to test your soil and expect a good yield. When you do it right, you get it right.

Cheers!!
Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 12:53pm On Sep 22, 2018
Q: for how long can the last soil analysis I did on my farm land last?

ANS: ideally the result obtained should be valid for just a season or Maximum 2seasons.

This is because at the end of every season the following factors would have influence the soil fertility:
1. Biological factors
2. Environmental factors
3. Human factors

These above factors are broken into various other factors and together the alter the soil fertility. You will agree with me that farmers are not opportune to put all these factors under control completely. Hence the best thing to do is to check how much negative effect these factors has caused on your farm soil at the end of a season or two before planting.

It is also very important to retirate that doing our type of soil test is very occurate ..,.do not use the result of soil test done with the mobile soil test machine for concise decision making. That would be erroneous.

Do it right and you get it right.

Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 8:18pm On Oct 05, 2018
soil pH does play a role in nutrient availability. Should you be concerned on your farm? Be more aware than concerned. Keep the pH factor in mind when planning nutrient management programs. Also, keep historical records of soil pH in your fields. Soils tend to acidify over time, particularly when large applications of NH 4+ based fertilizers are used or there is a high proportion of legumes in the rotation.

A knowledge of your soil PH is the key to a successful planting season. Soil analysis with us will go a long way in helping you to make the correct decision on: type of fertilizer to apply, Quantity of fertilizer to apply, when to apply the fertilizer and the treatment to give your farm land....contact kenfarm today

Sampling depth

Depth of sampling is critical because tillage and nutrient mobility in the soil can influence nutrient levels in different soil zones. Sampling depth depends on the crop, cultural practices, tillage depth and the nutrients to be analyzed. Plant roots, biological activity and nutrient levels occur mainly in the surface layers (0-25 cm) hence most of the soil samples are collected within this layer. For tree crops, samples from 30 – 50 cm can also be collected.

Q: how do I ensure that the soil sample collected for soil analysis is a representative sample of all the soil on the farm.

ANS: we at kenfarm have a scientific method of collecting sample from your farm so that result of the analysis can be used for generalisation of the intire farm area.

We ensure this by dividing the farm into fields if the farm is more than 10hectares. Where it is less than 10hectares we ensure we increase the number of soil sample we collect on the farm.

We also avoid taking soil sample is some area on the farm base on some characteristic features of those area

You are rest assured that any result we send to you is a true picture of how fertile the entire farm soil is. So we assure you that our analysis report can be used for minor decision taking on your farm because it from the desk of a soil scietist cum Plant Nutritionist

If you have been cultivating your farm land with Animal waste over the year the acidity of the soil often time increase like wise the CEC. If you intend to cultivate a crop considered to strive better in the alkaline soil, then you may want to ameliorate the soil before planting your new crop otherwise you sure going to experience stunted growth. How do you a certain the PH of your soil and CEC value?? It by conducting a soil fertility test with a competent expert like kenfarm.

Endeavour to do it right this coming season......

Research has specify that the addiction of manure, compost or other organic material is one nontoxic way to reduce the damage caused by nematodes( consult kenfarm to know why). By improving soil structure and water retention, organic material creates a healthy environment that increases the chances of plant survival even when nematodes are present.
Deep, infrequent watering helps create healthy, nematode-resistant roots. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which produce lush growth and nematode-prone roots.

Growing plants in above-ground containers (Nursery plants) can also reduce damage caused by nematodes. Use only clean potting mix that hasn’t been contaminated by regular garden soil.

Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 7:01pm On Nov 22, 2018
Soil texture is an important soil characteristic that influences stormwater infiltration rates. The textural class of a soil is determined by the percentage of sand, silt, and clay. Soils can be classified as one of four major textural classes: (1) sands; (2) silts; (3) loams; and (4) clays.

Soil texture determines the rate at which water drains through a saturated soil; water moves more freely through sandy soils than it does through clayey soils. Once field capacity is reached, soil texture also influences how much water is available to the plant; clay soils have a greater water holding capacity than sandy soils. In addition, well drained soils typically have good soil aeration meaning that the soil contains air that is similar to atmospheric air, which is conducive to healthy root growth, and thus a healthy crop. Soils also differ in their susceptibility to erosion (erodibility) based on texture; a soil with a high percentage of silt and clay particles has a greater erodibility than a sandy soil under the same conditions. Differences in soil texture also impacts organic matter levels; organic matter breaks down faster in sandy soils than in fine-textured soils, given similar environmental conditions, tillage and fertility management, because of a higher amount of oxygen available for decomposition in the light-textured sandy soils. The cation exchange capacity of the soil increases with percent clay and organic matter and the pH buffering capacity of a soil (its ability to resist pH change upon lime addition), is also largely based on clay and organic matter content.

In this regard, it important you know the soil texture of your farm soil to know what treatment should be given to your farm. Consult us for a professional soil test

Animal manures are probably the most commonly available organic material used for their fertilizer value. Animal manures sometimes can’t be certified as an organic fertilizer because of some feed additives that might have been used to enhance animal performance. Animal manure is essentially a complete fertilizer. It varies in nutrient contents, but a fertilizer ratio of 1-1-1 is typical. Animal manures make outstanding soil conditioners. Commonly available manures include cow, swine and poultry. The highest nutrient values are generally found in the fresh manures and decreases as the material ages or is composted. Although fresh manures have higher available nutrient contents, an aged or composted material is sometimes more appropriately used to facilitate spreading, minimize burn potential or the presence of excess salts.

However, it important to do q soil analysis for your farm soil to be sure of what type of manure to apply and in what Qty

Blanket application is slow with the specification of an expert

Cheers!!
