6 Nigerian Mobile App That Has True Value For Nigerians by TheLastNaijaDon: 12:54am On Mar 11, 2017
Today, technology has been on the fore-front of driving value among people. A lot of people have keyed-in in driving this value that technology brings to build product that changes the way man lives. Nigeria and Nigerians has not been left out in this moving train, as we have seen exceptional tech companies spring up, founded by Nigerians. The most personal tech products are Mobile Apps, as they have reshaped the functionality of our mobile phones. A lot of Nigerian software engineers have designed numerous apps but there are only a tiny fraction that people actually use, while some are just over hyped; most of them come with little or no value to the Nigerian society. There is no society void of challenges/ills and Nigeria isnt left out, so after taking a good look at the Nigerian society, i decided to find 'app' solution that has 'actual' value to the Nigerian society. In no order, i found them in the following;

1. Okada Books

EDUCATION. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
― Dr. Seuss. There are loads of information(s) hidden in the pages of books that Nigerians need to start reading, be it history, tradition or African culture. Okada books is an eBook app for Nigerian books by Okechukwu Ofili. With as little as N3, you can download good Nigerian books. With wide range of collection of books, Okadabooks is an app every Nigerian Youth need to have in order to see the Nigerian/African story from the eyes of talented writers.
The app is available on Android devices.

2. HollaNow

SECURITY. In a time when cases of insecurity headlines pages of newspapers, coupled with a desperate and furious populace and an increasing lower class, there is nothing like having access to numbers of emergency and security outfits. HollaNow is an app -propelled as a smart phone book- that gives Nigerians access to hotline of organizations and emergency numbers. Phone numbers of Fire fighters, anti-trafficking and domestic violence agencies, police, law enforcement agencies, corporate organizations etc can be found on the app (with a call button). This is a must-have for Nigerians.
The app is available on Android devices.

3. Find-A-Med

HEALTH. This app actually saves life by helping you find the nearest healthcare centre. Find-A-Med is a location-based mobile application that allows you to find the nearest health centre around your location and also stores your basic health information in case of an emergency. It works all over Nigeria and if you need to get some medical care all you need is your smartphone and some time. It won the first place on Mobile Africa West Conference.
The app is available on iOS or Android devices.

4. Banking apps

FINANCE No one can deny how mobile banking app has helped most of us. The stress of going to the bank to make transfers has been cut off with the introduction of mobile apps by most Nigerian banks. A lot of people dont even go to the bank anymore, with their phones; they do all their banking transactions. This has added tremendous value to the life of an average Nigerian, No more queuing up and entertaining the attitude of these naive bankers. Thanks to all the banks that have a functional mobile app.

5. Irokotv

ENTERTAINMENT The era of going to rent/buy Cds are gone, yes they are gone (say goodbye). For Christ sake, its a digital age. Unless you are just stubborn, a DVD shouldnt be seen in your home any longer. They are now on your Phones, Thank to Irokotv and their affordable subscriptions. The Irokotv app is dedicated to full-length nollywood and African movies. You will enjoy HD quality movies streamed directly to your smartphone. This is what i call 'digitalising' the olden days cd shops. With different ways to select what you love to watch, Irokotv is a sure app for everyone that loves watching Mr Ibu, Jennifer, Alex Ekubo and co on-the-go.
The app is available on iOS or Android devices.

6. Truppr

FITNESS. Though most Nigerians dont value keeping fit/exercising but with the increase in health damages on young people, which most times get fatal, fitness is something young Nigerians should take serious. Now this is a really good app that allows you join different fitness groups and events all around Nigeria. Sometimes you need workout buddies to motivate you to achieve your fitness goals; Truppr does just that for you by connecting you to other fitness enthusiasts around you.
The app is available on Android devices.

Please add, if i miss out on any. Ensure they are very useful.

Thanks.
