Some cultures may die, others may metamorphose, some would be totally relegated to “costumes” and others may never be remembered.
Africa is filled with so many cultures, and different languages, skin tones, people and even meals. How does one take all of Africa and put it into something that can be easily appreciated by non-Africans and even promoted.

Clothing is one of the only ways we can promote our culture, with little efforts we can have people who know nothing about us, learn so much from the colors and items we wear.

The western influence is seen in most of our designs, but as much as we can we have incorporated some Afro-sense into all of our apparel. We believe that Africa is artistic, its very essence revolves around the arts, nature, the seaand sometimes even the soil. Our folktales are filled with mysterious characters that inspire imaginations to think beyond the present environment and into a different realm that exists outside of time.

As designers, we constantly strive for authenticity, how can we achieve that with all that is around us. It’s by looking within though.

And so we mixed the fabrics of the Kenyan Massai, with the Ghanaian motifs while pondering through the thoughts of the Calabari bride, the Benin chiefs and the Yoruba dress silohuettes.

Our collection is a reflection of the Nigerian spirit. Highly westernized but deeply rooted in traditional beliefs. We considered the economy, the social climate the people’s concerns and we designed solely for our customers who are in touch with all of these and need a medium to express their feelings.

How can a simple item of clothing inspire deep feelings and express true concerns for our society?

All clothing were made in Nigeria by Nigerians, we have solved unemployment through training our designers locally, we have considered the economic situation by using a very strategic pricing system to create affordable pieces. Our need for recognition and class is seen in the cuts and embellishments on the clothing, one’s sense of eloquence is felt in the soft folds of the chosen fabrics, and finally our disposable income will not be threatened by any of these designs.

We have made glamour and class affordable! Come to Mente De Moda sales tomorrow at noon in Lekki, to get authentic African fashion pieces at the best prices. That’s what fashion should be, a true reflection of an entire people through and through. When you can look a million bucks for twenty that’s the new elite.
