JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/Reader
Departments: See main purpose of the job below
Reports to: Head of Department or National Coordinator
Grade: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader, as appropriate
Qualification: hD / Masters / BSc.
Main purpose of the job:

To carry out research, upload course contents, teaching and administration within the Department, especially in the area of;
Computer Science,
Global Finance and Accounting,
United Nations and Peace Studies,
Mass Communication,
Economics,
Business Administration
and Global Law.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. To teach at undergraduate (100 level) and graduate level (in the future) in areas allocated by the Head of Department or National Coordinator and reviewed from time to time by the Head of Department.
2. To carry out research and produce publications or other research outputs, in line with personal objectives.
3. To engage with the broader scholarly and professional communities.
4. To supervise or assist with supervision of undergraduate, taught graduate (Masters) or research graduate (MPhil/PhD) students.
5. To contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum.
6. To assist in the online development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
7. To participate in departmental and faculty seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
8. To participate in the development, administration and marking of exams and other assessments.
9. To provide online pastoral care and support to students.
10. To participate in the administration of the department’s programmes of study and other activities as requested.
11. To contribute to departmental, faculty, or FUN-wide working groups or committees as requested.
12. To maintain own continuing professional development.
13. To actively follow and promote FUN policies, including Equal Opportunities.



PERSON SPECIFICATION

The person appointed is likely to have the skills and experience listed below.

1. Knowledge

Essential: A strong knowledge of the subject area combined with a broad subject background enabling contributions to teaching programmes

2. Skills

Essential: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of the computer system, Internet knowledge, Ability to use MS Office packages

Proven record of ability to conduct high quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high quality publications, or other research outputs, in the areas of your chosen department
Desirable: Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines.
Evidence of ability to teach and to supervise academic work by undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students

3. Aptitude

Essential: Ability to work collaboratively online

4. Qualifications

Essential: PhD / Masters / BSc.
Desirable: Membership of a relevant professional organisation

5. Previous Experience

Essential: Research in your chosen department
Desirable: Online Assessment of student work, Curriculum design, Engagement with scholarly/professional community, Pastoral care of students.

6. Personal Qualities

Essential: Commitment to academic research
Commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students
Commitment to continuous professional development
Commitment to public communication

Remuneration: Very attractive (read below)
Accepted lecturers will have the opportunity to moderate up-to 5 courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He / She will upload courses to our website for free access by the registered student members and other members of the public. Lecturers will be paid up-to 60% of the cost of certification sales. Courses are free while users may optionally order for certificates at a cost.
