Immanuel had eight A1 and one A2 at the May/June 2008 WASSEC. Seventeen-year-old Immanuel was given a cheque gift of over N40,000 by WAEC and a cash gift of N300,000 naira by the Akwa Ibom State government.

Immanuel, who hails from Abia State and finished from King's High School, Satellite Town, Lagos State, was the best student in Lagos State Physics Quiz Competition.

He also came first in Nigeria's final qualifying examinations for 2008 International Physics Olympiad organised by National Mathematics Centre, Abuja. He is currently studying mechanical engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

The Principal of King's High School, Satellite Town, Lagos, where Immanuel wrote his WASSCE, Mr. Emmanuel Kehinde Owu, revealed that the school had earlier produced one Onwunali Augustine Onyekachi, who came second in West Africa in May/June 2004 WASC and is also the winner of the Omo N'Oba Erediauwa Coronation Trophy for producing the best male candidate in the May/June 2008 WASSCE.

Owu said the school discouraged students from examination malpractices.

His words: "In our school, we do extra job of what others are not doing. We integrate the syllabus of WAEC, NECO, Lagos State unifying scheme together with the national curriculum on each subject. We combine these four on each subject and do a seminar for the teachers on them so that we come out in each subject with what we call King's High School Syllabus. Our syllabus is wider than the WAEC scope and is wider than whatever the national curriculum wants to teach. We make sure that we teach everything the students need to know. We make what we call holiday coaching compulsory for five weeks every year. We cover our syllabus and even do revision. We also ensure that no student learn cheats, they know how to depend on themselves".

Responding to the award, Immanuel revealed that God, hardwork and focus on his goal led to his success.

He advised other students to have confidence in themselves rather than cheating and involving themselves in examination malpractices.

No! No! No! I sincerely don't agree that the presentation of money to this chap for this great feat is enough. This guy deserves a scholarship to any University in any part of the world. Imagine, this is a country where we celebrate good footballers by giving them landed property in choice areas. A country where the government spend so much money to rehabilitate militants and sometimes sending them overseas; yet, we cannot celebrate academic excellence. Too bad. indeed very bad.
