Nigerian attacker Peter Odemwingie is reportedly on the verge of being unveiled as a new signing in Indonesia..

The former Super Eagles and Stoke City striker is believed to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Indonesian outfit Madura United and will be following in the footsteps of former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien following his move to the Indonesian Liga 1.

The club’s manager, Haruna Soemitro, has confirmed Odemwingie's arrival:

"Our search for a marquee player has been positive, we will bring Peter Odemwingie," he is quoted by GHANASoccernet.

"He's a player who had a career with the national team of Nigeria and played in three editions of the World Cup, and the level of these players actually meets the criteria marquee player.”

Odemwingie played 31 times for Stoke between January 2014 and the summer of 2016 - a period in which is career was decimated by a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He joined Rotherham for a short spell earlier this season, but only featured seven times for the Championship strugglers.
