Fifa has just handed Lionel Messi a four-match international ban after receiving a video of him insulting a match official during Argentina's match against Chile.

It's important to note that the referee didn't include this in his report and has said he only heard the regular player complaints but nothing that sounded disrespectful.

Argentina's football association is expected to appeal this ban as the Argentine talisman is key to the World Cup qualification. The Argentine football team have only won 1 game and lost 2 games out of 7 games without Messi on the pitch as opposed to 5 wins and 1 draw out of 6 games with him on this pitch.

Argentina currently sit 3rd in the race to a spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia but are only four points ahead of 7th placed Paraguay.


The ban is said to be announced less than six hours to their World Cup qualification match against Bolivia.
