1. Housing: It is important you make proper housing for ur birds before they ever arrive. You need two of these housing which will be serving different purposes ie brooding and growing houses but where u don't have the means to do this u can improvise or condition the house u already have for brooding time.

2. Drinkers/Feeders: the container where you put water for the chickens is called DRINKER while the one for the feeds is called FEEDER. You must have seen these things. If u don't have money to get them u can always improvise.

3. Heat source: this can be ur kerosene stove, charcoal stove, uv light bulbs etc. It is used to regulate temperature during brooding time.

4. Capital: you need money for the following:
a. Feeds - u can buy or make this if u have a good formula
b. Vaccines/Drugs: you will be administering these things to ur doc till they are 4 weeks
c. doc: don't forget u are buying the birds.
d. vitamin /additives
These are the basic things you need while setting up a poultry farm especially when you are starting small.

Patience?

I am planning to set up 1000 birds for my poultry business (layers) towards ending of this year or by first quarter of 2018(Gods willing). The only thing available now is...Land.
Business plan is not yet ready.
Will a budget estimate of 700k be enough to cover equipment and birds maintenance before their productive stage?
Your advise will go along way to help me mitigate loss.

First, if u intend to use galvanised cages, buy from doc, buy feeds, etc u will be spending a whole lot beyond dt amount but u could still cut down on expenses, makin ur own feeds, improvise housing for layers as against d galvanised cages and other maintenance. Whichever method u use u will need more than 700k since the birds would about 6 months before they start laying. During this time u will be running expenses on feeds, drugs etc

did you say 6months? That's alot of time... No wonder the key word for agriculture is patience.

Yes it is. All farmers must have patience as a virtue
