Teenagers are an abundance of energy enthusiasm and zeal. They sometimes are necessary hires to provide the ideal view, or perspective to a particular start-up or business, especially where the founders of such business are also young individuals.

Most times their pay is often less, when hired As sweet as it is hiring a teenager, or thinking that by hiring them you are making the world a safe place their might be some possible land mines you should note. On a general note, the law is relatively jealous and protective when it comes to teenagers (minors). For you and your business to be on a safer side, there are certain things you ought to know:


Necessaries/ Apprenticeship
The law only permits Minors to enter into contracts of apprenticeship and necessaries. Contract of apprenticeship are those contract, written or not, made between two parties where one party agrees to teach and the other party agrees to learn. These soughts are common in Nigeria, although not in writing. But, so far they are notorious customs in Nigeria, the court may take judicial notice of it when called upon to do so. Contract of necessaries are those contract that are necessary and beneficial to them. The law allows that minors void some contracts, upon attaining the age of majority. If your employment of a teenage can be interpreted as a either a necessary or apprenticeship then the waters are still.

Child related laws.
You should be conversant with the necessary Child laws, both state and federal enactments. The age stipulations are important. Under the labour Act, there are certain Jobs a woman, by extension a girl, cannot do; these stipulation might be important.
