Arsene Wenger has agreed to leave Arsenal Football Club at the end of the current season following his 20-year stay in North London, the club has confirmed.


The Frenchman has been under tremendous pressure from the fans who felt the team has declined in recent years, failing to compete with the elite clubs in the world and not having a premier league title since 2004.


Wenger’s current deal runs out at the end of the season but despite the club willing to hand him a new two-year contract extension, the former AS Monaco manager felt it is the right time to leave the club and move on.

A club statement read: “Arsenal Football Club and Arsene Wenger have agreed to part-company by mutual consent.”

We thank Wenger for the amazing 20years he gave us, winning the premier league, FA Cup and playing in the UEFA Champions League final.

But both Wenger and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

The club wishes to make clear Wenger leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Arsenal. His legacy at the Emirates and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to the Emirates.”

Wenger will be in-charge of the Gunners when they host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday.
