The Jamb registrar accused cafe's of extorting jamb candidates - hence his reason for restricting the registration to CBT centres only.

if you have been to the CBT centres, you will agree with me that Cyber cafes are saints when compared to the high level of corruption and inhumane treatment being meted to prospective candidates at the CBT centres.

first, due to the mega crowd of applicants wishing to gain access to the premises of the CBT centres, desperate candidates bribe the security men at the gate with as much as N500 to 1k to let them gain easier access into the cbt centres. after scaling thru that huddle, candidates are made to pay between N500 to 1k by the cbt cente operators who advice the candidates to create a new profile despite having ones the candidates created themselves - the operators often insist that the ones the candidates created are either not functional or are erroneous and therefore can make them lose the N5500 they paid for pin.

do note that creation of profile is part of the N700 registration charge imposed on the CBT centres by JAMB - and yet CBT centres charge them separately for this service!

Centers with pin vending machines most times don't allow candidates who purchased their pins from the bank to register unless they are willing to part with additional 500 naira (THATS ASIDE FROM THE N700 PAID FOR REGISTRATION!) this they claim will enable them make out the time to attend to them - they often claim that they are too busy attending to those who purchased pin directly from their centre - and since they are much, they often claim they are too busy to attend to 'outsiders'!

the worst is, some of the candidates would av been going to the CBT centres for days without being registered only for one big man to come with military or police escorts and the CBT centre operators will instantly attend to them right inside the Server room under the chilling air-conditioner after huge sums of money would av changed hands while other candidates are roasting outside in the hot sun!

This scenario even happens at Bwari right under the nose of the JAMB registrar though he may not be aware of it. Its this scenario that caused a near riot at Jamb office in Bwari last week Tuesday and mobile police men were invited to disperse the angry protesting candidates with tear gas!

If your pin is wrongly sent to a non-functional or non existent email, you will be forced to cough out another N5500 to procure another pin - and then they will later go to the vending bank and recover same pin and re-sale it to another candidate after giving the vending bank the new email to send the pin to.

oh lest i forget - the little minions who help in the registration also extort minimum of N200 to assist the novice candidates to complete their registration.

believe me no candidate spent less than N8000 to register this jamb - excluding huge amounts spent on transportation - and some candidates have been going to the CBT centres every day for close to two weeks now and yet they are not registered. The sad thing is 35% of them lost their phones and various other properties at the CBT centres every day! and before you blame them for being careless, i will advice you to visit the CBT centres and see the hell they go thru to register Jamb - then you will understand why they get so carried away that they forgot to look after their properties in the tedious processes of which the predators subsequently stole the property from them.

I also forgot to mention the fact that many of the candidates that collapsed at the CBT centres due to exhaustion and prolonged stress under the scorching sun - are not attended to by any medical personnel neither are there FIRST AID kit -THE ONLY HELP GIVEN TO COLLAPSED CANDIDATES ARE PURE WATER POURED ON THEM BY SOME GOOD SAMARITANS!

IT SO UNFAIR!

I was of the opinion that since JAMB registration is internet based, it would av been designed in such a way that candidates with any kind of smart phone, desktop or laptop can be able to carry out and complete his or her registration by simply downloading a software or an app that will automatically integrate any hardware with finger printer sensor - be it a smart phone or a laptop so that candidates can complete their registration in the comfort of their homes - those without such facility can easily visit any cafe or cbt centre and capture their thumb prints without stress or exposure to unnecessary danger!

JAMB SHOULD AS A MATTER OF URGENCY REVIEW THIS TEDIOUS METHOD OF REGISTRATION - EVEN IN THE 80'S, 90'S AND 2000 BEFORE THE INTRODUCTION OF ICT INTO JAMB REGISTRATION, PEOPLE DON'T SUFFER THIS MUCH TO REGISTER JAMB! ICT IS SUPPOSED TO SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS - BUT SADLY, IF THE HELL OUR CHILDREN GO THRU NOW TO REGISTER JAMB IS THE BEST ICT CAN OFFER, THEN MANY PARENTS WILL PREFER THAT JAMB GOES BACK TO THE ARCHAIC METHOD OF REGISTRATION USING PEN AND PAPER!
