GUNN DEAL!!! Alexis Sanchez ‘to be offered £300k-a-week’ by Arsenal to make him highest paid Premier League player EVER.

The Chilean looks set to leave the Emirates in the summer but Gunners chiefs are prepared to smash wage structure to stop an exit.

Earlier this week, reports in Chile claimed that Manchester City are ‘very close’ to signing Sanchez, who is keen to work under Pep Guardiola rather than make the move to Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s side were given major hope in their efforts to sign Sanchez last month after the Chilean admitted he would be prepared to stay in London with a team who have ‘aspirations’.

The Gunners chiefs are however, not giving up on their star man so easily.

Sanchez will have only a year remaining on his current £130,000-a-week contract with Arsenal by the end of the season, and has not given any indication that he is ready to sign an extension.

According to The Evening Standard, Sanchez will be offered a record £300,000-a-week to stay – smashing Arsenal’s wage structure and more than DOUBLING his current £130k-a-week deal in the process.

Paul Pogba is currently the league’s top biller on £290k-a-week.

Should the Gunners fail in their attempts, a £50million fee will be demanded for the striker, who is out of contract at the end of next season.

Arsenal fear losing their best players to an English rival, and so will resort to the last-ditch offer.

Mesut Ozil, 28, who earns £140,000-a-week, will also reportedly be presented with a similar deal.

The situation echoes that of Robin van Persie in 2012, with Arsenal selling to Manchester United after the Dutchman failed to agree terms.

Arsene Wenger claims Sanchez - who has scored 22 goals in all competitions and is nominated for PFA Player of the Year - is happy at the club.

A number of temper tantrums - including a training-ground commotion - appeared to have affected his relationship with team-mates.

But the report claims senior figures at the club hope that will not affect his decision, although finishing outside the Champions League places is likely to have a huge impact on his desire to stay.

The Gunners are seven points below fourth-placed City with a game in hand, and the possibility of no European football next term is very real.

Wenger's contract situation is also a factor.

His deal is up at the end of the season and the 67-year-old has been tight-lipped on any decision he has made.
