Why Is Polyandry Not Practised In Nigeria? (photos) by Mrvirgin(m): 6:18pm On Apr 15, 2017 |
Polygamy has often been regarded as a situation whereby a man marries two or more wives(legally or illegally). However, that may not be true as the above description only describes 'polygyny' which is one of the forms of polygamy. The other forms of polygamy include polyandry, group marriage(conjoint marriage) among others. Unlike polygyny, polyandry is a form of polygamy where a woman takes two or more husbands at the same time. It is practised in some parts of the world like Tibet, northern parts of Nepal and India among others. It has been used to control overpopulation in some parts of Asia in the past. So I've been wondering, if it's not illegal and abnormal, then why is it not practised in Nigeria? Why is polygyny allowed and polyandry frowned at? Is it against our culture, norms and values? 1 Like

Because it's not our culture...and most Nigerian men are not liberal, they are selfish. They would die at the thought of another man sleeping with their wives but they won't pity their wives and stay one place. 10 Likes |

Lol. Nigerian men have too much testosterone for such wild fantasies. Na body go tell the woman. Do you know how many Nigerian women wish they could run away from their current husbands and how many want to just kill the basterd? She will just die young. 1 Like |

abatisegun:Abomination indeed but would support polygamy. What an archaic cultural norm we have in Nigeria. It's not as if polyandry is good 2 Likes |

Polygamy is practised in this part of the world because of the selfish nature of our men over here. They make laws that favour them at the expense of the opposite sex using deity as threat. The deity only work based on the agreement held by our fore fathers because of the agreement they enter. Same with the polyandry being practised in other countries 2 Likes |

Joavid:Who told u it can't be included in our culture? How sure are you that it's not the selfish nature of man that made them adopt polygyny and ignore polyandry? Do you know polyandry can be used to control overpopulation like it has been used to control overpopulation in some part of Asia in the past? 2 Likes |

Timbuktuo:There are exceptions to your opinion... Have you heard of nymphomaniacs? There are plenty women who can't be satisfied by one man. Their sexual desire and libido is so high that they need more than one man for sexual satisfaction. 1 Like |
