When a girl dates a man about 10-20 years older than she is, it is considered an aberration. If for a moment you think that it is simply because the age gap is much that people believe it is wrong then think again.

Once more, if for a second you assume that it is because the society sees such girls as gold diggers then I put it to you again that it is not so. It goes way deeper than that and you would agree if you would observe carefully.

Actually, society likes what is traditional. Most people believe certain things should remain what they are and anything that changes from what they are used to, they feel it threatens them and all they stand for. They think, “if this changes and becomes the norm, then what else around me is going to change and where will I fit in in all of that?” And so they fearfully kick against it and vehemently fight it. Appalling and selfish as it is, it is true. 

The second reason society fights this kind of relationship is because they believe the young girls are cruelly taking away what rightfully belongs to others. This is why you will hear statements like, “This small girl is dating this old man when there are women out there that are this man’s age who are looking for husbands.” They say this forgetting that men are not possessions that particular people can lay claim to. 

Thus, if you find yourself genuinely interested in an older guy and you hear some crass statements. Don’t let that bother you and know it comes from either of these perspectives.
