Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the people and government of Turkey on the successful conclusion of the country’s referendum on Monday.

A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Monday said Buhari particularly congratulated Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his foresight.

The President commended Erdogan for his maturity in leading his people to the polls to decide on the future of leadership for the country that would further deepen peace and stability.

According to him, the referendum showcases the democratic credentials of the country and reflects a willingness of the Turkish people to live together and jointly pursue a better future. Erdogan won 51.3 per cent of the votes in a referendum on Sunday to grant him sweeping powers in the biggest overhaul of modern Turkish politics.

However, opposition parties said the exercise was marred by irregularities, adding that they would challenge its result. “Turkey’s mainly Kurdish southeast and its three main cities, including the capital Ankara and the largest city Istanbul, looked set to vote No, after a bitter and divisive campaign,’’ a local newspaper reported

Really

If you are 'eyeing' being given such sweeping powers in naija you are dreaming. cheesy

Seriously will Buhari support a referendum for us to decide if we'll like to continue staying together under this fraudulent contraption called Nigeria

Your guess is as good as mine.

That's what I'm also asking, would he throw it open if 30% of the people living in Nigeria today say yes to one Nigeria let the word secession become a punishable offense

Will Buharri allow for a referendum to be conducted in Biafra case, if 20% of Igbos say they want Nigeria then we'll never mention Baifra again.. or shoudl he open refrendum for Nigeria to decide if there are 45% of the people who still believe in one Nigeria let the word secession become a crime in Nigeria. I dare him

No provision for separation in our Constitution.

Work with the NASS to include that first if you know how to fight your battle.

My question is, why is buhari congratulating turkey? Does buhari and nigerians know what referendum means? Am asking because of the way they are handling Kanu's case.

Look at what reasonable human being is saying, Law does not make man, man makes law, when you build bridge you make room for expansion.. if the Nigerian constitution does not provide for separation then that is enough reason to do away with it because it can no longer carry the people

Go amend the constitution first. It is what guides our behaviour as a country.
If PMB even attempts it without the backing of the constitution, he can be impeached on that ground.

Ask those around you who know better than you.

Now you speak like someone who reason a little not like goat, so before saying your constitution doesn't provide for separation it escaped your mind that it could be amended any day to provide for anything possible.
