Fit2Rule:

They are just trying to make TRCN relevant. 90% of teachers in Nigeria, especially those in private schools, are teaching because there are no jobs in the professional fields. If they want to enforce professionalism, they should as well compel all politicians to take a degree in political science, public administration, or at least a professional certification in leadership.

The poor are always at their mercy and always suffer the consequences of their shortsighted and misplaced policies,God saves us

In Nigeria nothing is done properly. Now, instead of organising an update certification exam program gradually over a period and so weed out the chaff, with this announcement, the certifying authority has now become exposed to 'quick service' corruption . Everybody working in that organisation now will be buying and selling certificate. The bad teachers will just buy and the aim is defeated.

In Nigeria....well I'm not surprised. They will say, as usual, that it is in line with "International Best Practices." Third world!

It means many teachers will be jobless. Why not also send home senators without certificates? Does our president have a professional certificate? The solution will be give these teachers the opportunity to go back to school and try and get a certificate while they are still working. They may decide to run part- time
It is wayyyyyy more important and absolutely necessary that a teacher be certified than a Senator or even the President be certified. And we wonder why there are now so many illiterates..... uncertified teachers ... generation of illiterates.

The Federal Government has said teachers who do not possess Professional Certificate of the Teachers’ Registration Council, TRCN, will be shown the way out by the end of this year. This was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council, Professor Olusegun Ajiboye in Ibadan yesterday. According to him, the decision is part of the three-year Ministerial Strategic Plan by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. This, he added, was aimed at getting rid of unqualified teachers in Nigerian schools. He further hinted that the first professional qualifying examination of TRCN would hold at the end of September, 2017. He advised those who want to use the normal registration to act before the end of May 2017. While hinting that about 1.6m teachers have registered, he said examination was designed in modules comprising category A (PhD holders), B (Master degree holders), C (Bachelor degree holders), and D (NCE holders). Ajiboye said, “By the end of 2017, Nigerian children will be taught by only qualified professional teachers who can deliver the quality education desirous for the elevation of our children and our country.”
