Apr 19, Shirley Temple appeared in her first movie.


1982
Apr 19, Astronauts Sally K. Ride and Guion S. Bluford Jr. became the first woman and first African-American to be tapped by NASA for U.S. space missions.


1988
Apr 19, Sarah LaChapelle (56) was found murdered at her home in East Oakland. Gregory Tate (21) was arrested later that day in LaChapelle's stolen Oldsmobile Cutlass. He was convicted in 1992 for her murder and in 1993 was sentenced to death. He had cut off a finger to steal LaChapelle’s wedding and engagement rings. In 2010 the California Supreme Court upheld Tate’s sentence.


2003
Apr 19, In northeast Pennsylvania Hadley Bilger (13) was abducted by her uncle after he shot and killed her parents. Bilger was released the next day and Robert Lee Hixson (42) surrendered to police.


2007
Apr 19, In Zimbabwe 82 members of the Women of Zimbabwe Arise group were arrested in Bulawayo during a protest against power outages. 18 of the women were stripped and jailed for hours.
