Police Didn't Arrest Any Of Our Lecturers, Ambrose Alli University Says by Benite: 8:45pm On Apr 19, 2017
The management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State on Wednesday described as ‘false’ the claim by the state police command that it had arrested some academic staff of the institution for alleged cult-related activities.

The higher institution also threatened to institute legal action against the Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, if he fails to retract his statement and tender an apology within 48 hours.

Gwandu had, during a press briefing on Tuesday, said that some AAU lecturers were arrested and firearms recovered from them.

He had listed items recovered from a professor of the university to include a double-barreled gun, single-barreled gun and one pump action.

The Police commissioner also expressed concern over the alleged rate of cultism in and around the institution, which he said had claimed many lives.

He also said that the Police had discovered “more than 14 beheaded students” during an inspection.

Gwandu had said, “We have a lot of issues with that particular university. There are some senior lecturers that were apprehended with firearms. So, we are going to arrest those who are mentoring and those who are real cultists and charge them to court.”

But the university, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Edward Aihevba, said the claims by the Police commissioner were not only false but also embarrassing, as the AAU had not received any cult-related report ‎involving its staff and students.

It said, “We hereby state unequivocally that Ambrose Alli University has had no issue of cult-related activities since the inception of the administration of Prof. Ignatius Onimawo and his management team.

“There has been no report from the Police Force or any individual or groups for that matter concerning any incident of cultism or cult-related activities.

“The Police Commissioner and his team could not have arrested any staff of the university or (recorded) 14 students dead and not make a report, formal or informal, to the authorities of Ambrose Alli University.”

The university added, “We want to assure the general public that there is and there has been peace within and around the university environment. There is no cult activity and no death of any student in the university.

“We hereby demand that the Edo State Police Commissioner retracts his statement and apologise to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, within 48 hours; failing which the university will not hesitate to institute legal proceedings.

The nigerian police are so corrupt and wicked, just because a prof exposed how the brutalised him for nothing, they decided to possibly frame up to cover their atrocities.
The Edo Commissioner of Police is a corrupt and wicked man, instead of calling his boys to order he decided to frame the victims up to cover for his boys.
His refusal to apologise for lying in 48 hrs will land him in jail.
Police is not your friend, yeye dey smell.
