I remember going to Nigeria in early 2003. There were two BIG albums at the time. Tufaces's face 2 face and Ruggedman's Thy Album Come.

I bought about 5 copies of both. The truth is, Ruggedman made me sit up and take note of Naija Hip hop. He made pidgin sound so cool. I only liked Trybesmen's 'plenty nonsense' before that. Rugged definitely made people realise that there was money to be made in naija hip hop. He seemed fearless and daring because taking on Kennis music was no mean feat.

Only Tuface's album may have sold more than Ruggeds TAC at that time.

I don't think he sold 6 figures ( a million?) on i-tunes BUT he probably sold a good number.

According to Ruggedman, As @ d time TAC was Release, Album Marketing in Naija was @ an infant stage n he cudn't really State how much the album sold. . . . However he Said the Album has More Commercial Success Than Ruggedybaba. . . . He also said Ruggedybaba sold the First 100,000 copies in 3weeks and the 2nd 100,000 in 3months!

yeah i think its really hard to determine album sales figure in 9ja,its like pirates make more money 4rm cd sales than even the artiste. so i guess in other to determine how succesful an album is it will be based on hw many gigs artistes get on that album, then maybe hw often the songs are played on air,

Ruggedy definately killed it back then,, his TAC album was good and was what naija hiphop needed to advance, His major problem is, what he did after acheiving this feat.
Ok Ruggedman broke into the game with 'Ehen' and then started recordin songs with other wack artist, I remember he used to say he was the 'most featured artist' then. MOST OF THOSE HE GOT ON TRACKS WITH WHERE AS WACK AS EEDRIS,TETUILA, RASKI.At first he baptised the game, then he started encouragin wack artists, thats what actually killed ruggedman props.
From a personal point of veiw, I think Ruggedyman dissed his way into the industry!he doesn't really have much to offer since that + he could be dissin his way out dis tym.
TAC, was superb. I bought RuggedyBaba, but it was filled with dancetracks unlike its predeccesor.He doesnt really have much to offer. 3 albums he's gone! Shows that as well
The mode 9 beef actually dragged him down, only conspicously (as he was already down anyway). I liked him back then, but he has failed me and will even fail the more if he does a deathblow reply now, as he should have done it wen the heat was on.Doin it now is like running behind curtains.
Well i will still listen to his new album, with an open mind, hopin he'l impress me.
For now atleast, Mode9 has achieved more 'hiphopwise' and thats all i care about (i dont have anythin to do with their money)
