Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunimi Ambode on Friday said his government is not involved in the demolition of Ojodu market in the state.

Hundreds of shops were demolished on Wednesday at the popular market located within Ojodu Local Council Development Authority by men of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment, allegedly in compliance with a court order.

The demolition was said to have caught many traders unaware as they were not given any notice before the exercise was carried out.

Ambode expressed surprise over the demolition which led to loss of goods worth millions of Naira.

The governor disclosed this at the 2nd Quarter 2017 Town Hall Meeting, organised by the state government at the Shibiri/Ekunpa Area Office, Oto-Awori Local Council Development Authority.

He said he did not approve the demolition.

"I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to look into the matter and report back to me. We are ready to support market women and we will not do anything to jeopardize their interest," Ambode said.

So who is responsible? It clearly shows that ambode the pumpkin head governor is not in charge..I feel the person responsible is a member of tinubus family..It might be Remi tinubu or his iyaloja daugther or maybe tinubu himself. That family runs lagos as if they own Lagos..I believe one day Lagosians will wake up.

That's why I luv the likes of Fashola d great,Obiano d great ad ganduje they refused to bow down to any Godfather ad predecessor, but that yam head ambode is busy taking wicked orders from his boss tinubu at his own detriment..When he steps down lagosians will remember him as a wicked oppressor.
we won't care if it was his orders or not..Which might hinder him from getting another elective position.
Ambode should better do sumtin to redeem his battared image, his advisers are not advising him well..The evil onez among them might be advising him wrongly on purpose to soil his image.

The laws are meant for the poor and the common Nigerians.

A lot of shops were destroyed in Ojodu, while new ones are being erected, e.g. Justrise. Of course, Ambode wouldn't near Justrise, a property of the Obasanjo's...

On a second note though, that road behind the market is too rough. Lagos markets are just indescribable... a complete contrast to what obtain in many other states. I think a market isn't really appropriate in that axis coupled with the ever disturbing bureau de change mallams on a very tiny road.

I think Ambode and Ogun state Governor need to work out something. Majority of those who use that axis live in Ogun state: first Ojodu Abiodun, then to Alagbole and Akute and Ajuwon, Olambe, etc, and many other places in faraway Ifo LGA of Ogun state.

Ogun state Governor should simply complete the Bridge at Odo-Alagbole so buses and cars can move freely... Thereafter place a complete ban on Okada, and see how swift and seemless Ojodu would become.

Ambode can destroy all he wants, as long as the Ogun state Governor continues to neglect that Alagbole bridge, Okadas will continue to make a mess of his efforts.

I suspected the Tinubus have a hand in it. Impunity and lawlessness to govern Lagos behind the governor's back.

Anyone who thinks that ramshackle market will be left standing given the billions Ambode has spent on infrastructure in the area needs to have a brain examination.

Shoprite will make a lot of sense in that area.

The traders were given enough notice.

Dictatorship is the manner which the people are been govern in Nigeria. Explain how a popular market were demolitioned and the executive governor is not aware truly, there is fire on the mountain. Something is wrong with one Nigeria.

Then, something is actually wrong somewhere if truly the demolition was not approved by the Lagos State Governor.
Re: Ambode Denies Hand In Ojodu Market Demolition by transient123(m): 1:49pm On Apr 22, 2017
This doesn't add up at all by the governor, a market has big as that being demolished and you are claiming ignorance, fire your commissioner of justice, he should know about the court order, your commissioner of trade and investment, that is his/her jurisdiction, commissioner of police should be queried for sanctioning the policemen that gave security for demolition.

Rumours has it the Tunubus have a hand in it long ago, as a residence in ojodu, this is what people are saying. Not sure though.

so is it the rivers state government that was involved in the demolition? Ambode is seemingly feigning ignorance so as not to spoil his name but we know the truth about him, commander in chief of demolishion of peoples homes and properties.

Lagos state has been using this same trick from the days of Tinubu...they look for a cheap and poorly organised market in prime locations, they either employ area boys to burn it, or get a court order to demolish it. Then they rebuild it and resell shops there are exorbitant prices.

Apc and destruction.... This is a fact.. Most of their policies are for the rich people... Destroying source of livelihood for masses.. Building of roads.. In return destroy where poor people are struggling to have a means of livelihood....
You now needs to be careful in acquisition of shops or land else the next thing you would know it marked for destruction...
Most of these women are widows catering for their children...
