According to Wikipedia Emotional Intelligence is the capability of individuals to recognize their own, and other people's emotions, to discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt environments or achieve one's goal(s). Another person put it this way Emotional Intelligence, or emotional quotient (EQ), is defined as an individual's ability to identify, evaluate, control, and express emotions. People with high EQ usually make great leaders and team players because of their ability to understand, empathize, and connect with the people around them. IQ, or intelligence quotient, is score derived from one of several standardized tests designed to assess an individual's intelligence. IQ is used to determine academic abilities and identify individuals with off-the-chart intelligence or mental challenges. EQ is a better indicator of success in the workplace and is used to identify leaders, good team players, and people who best work by themselves. It is really no news that we humans make decisions based on our feelings. 80%-90% of the time we act based on how we feel at a giving point in time. Which is why advertisements that are emotion centered tend to succeed compared to adverts that are logical/reason based. Research has shown that the limbic part of our brain(which controls our emotions) are involved with most of the major decisions we take as opposed to our fore brain which controls all the logical thoughts we are involved in. The value of a high emotional intelligence is in the fact that you can make anybody do what you want with joy and gladness and they will not bother reasoning the difficulty of the task. High IQ may make people impressed with you but high EQ prompts/moves people to act based on what you want. People with high EQ usually thrive in relationships because of their ability to put themselves in other people's shoes.

To the individual emotional intelligence is invaluable. Those that have it in high levels tend to succeed better in relationships and life in general. They always get the best from those around them while those that have them as friends tend to perceive them as extremely loving and caring people. In life those with high EQ tend to make for better leaders the reason is that they can make their followers perform to the very fullest of their potentials.

The 21 century CEO can not afford to be high only on IQ rather he must possess also a high level of emotional intelligence. In fact a CEO with a low IQ and a high EQ will do better than a CEO with a high IQ and a low EQ. This is because the former will get the best out of his employees as opposed to the latter who may get the best only from himself. Today's business atmosphere is more competitive than it has ever been that is why cooperation's can not afford to get below best from their employees.
