OLUFEMI Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation has said the title ‘coordinator’ being referred to the Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo is not only insulting but also dangerous.

The former minister was reacting to a mild drama which took place on Tuesday at the plenary of the country’s upper legislative chamber.

A senator, Mao Ohuabunwa had raised a Point of Order wherein he said that the letter from President Muhammadu Buhari supposedly vesting the powers of the president on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was not well-worded to that effect.

Buhari in his letter told the lawmakers that while he will be away, Osinbajo will “coordinate” government activities.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode who reacted through series of tweets on his Twitter handle described the referral as insulting and dangerous.



He further stated that “It is time for us to decide: do we have a nation of equals or not?If not let us break it! When u tell us that the VP cannot be Acting Pres.” adding that there was no slaves in the country again.

During Buhari’s first official medical trip, Osinbajo, who was the Acting President, garnered massive accolades and popularity for his efficient leadership.

Some Nigerians even advised the President to stay back in London and leave Osinbajo to lead the country as the impact of his presidency – even though in acting capacity – was felt by all.

Critics believe that referring to Osinbajo as the ‘coordinator of government activities’ was an attempt to clip the rising profile of the Vice-President as a perfect replacement for Buhari.
