What is Christmas? by Bishop4u(m): 1:30am On Dec 12, 2005
I think Xmas is marked the "Birth of Christ" but we the young ones have a wrong impresion about Xmas, we rather turn Xmas to be something else.

Xmas is not all about buying new cloths, drinking, fighting, smoking and all that, but is all about preparing to welcome Christ Jesus into our souls as our Lord and Personal Saviour.

What do u think is Xmas?

Wishing you a beautiful Holiday and a New Year of Peace and Happiness.

No offence, but the picture ... is that really Him? (not really necessary)

Merry Christmas to everyone!
Re: What is Christmas? by kismat: 12:44pm On Dec 12, 2005
There is nothing like Christmas in Christianity. Its an invention just as you have many invented words of "God" in the bible.

"Christmas was originally a festival of the Winter Solstice. It was customary to hold great feasts in honor of the HEATHEN GODS. The early teachers of Christianity PROHIBITED THESE FESTIVALS as unsuited to the character of Christ. Yet the symbols and customs of the old festivals are adapted to the new, and so we find Christmas patterned with many customs of pagan origin."

We celebrate xmas not because of the knowledge of any pagan practise but because it is the time of year when the prince of peace was born...in rememberance of him of which the angel Gabriel to Mary said...and he shall save his people from their sins...and of the multitude of angels to the shepherds that watch their flocks by night...Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men... and of the Patriach Simeon when he held the baby Jesus in the temple...For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel..., now when that time of the year comes little wonder it comes natural for all to join in the celebration for the air is filled with such joy and splendour unmatched by any other time or times of the year.

Christmas is all about peace on earth to all men. Merry xmas Nairalanders.
Re: What is Christmas? by RhodaRose(f): 2:21pm On Dec 12, 2005
christmas is a man-made holiday, as is easter.

You may think you are celebrating the "birth of Jesus" but you are not, Jesus was not born in the flesh in the winter.

If Jesus wanted you to celebrate His birth in the flesh He would have been sure to tell you the date of this celebration.

The Creator Father nor Jesus cared a twit about the birth of any "flesh" but the Birth of the Spirit in which you are born again to the Creator.  The "flesh" is useless to Him otherwise.

Joh 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Jesus was "born" at His baptism when the Holy Spirit came to Him and that sure wasn't in the winter or He would have had enough sense to not get into the freezing Jordon River  smiley

Re: What is Christmas? by nicetohave(m): 2:29pm On Dec 12, 2005
Hmm, you got me thinking here...christmas is surely a man made holiday, what we celebrate here is not his birthday my dear...and remember i did not make mention of a particular date for know one knows that for sure...what we do know is it is in the depth of winter..so it is this time of year...sure God does give a twit about the birth of Jesus in the flesh...its a phenomental time in history...Jesus was born when he was born in the flesh...oh tell me why would a multitude of angels descend to announce it? well he was commisioned at baptism...but certainly wasnt born then...dont tell me the day you entered kindergerten (for those of us that went) was the day you were born..that would be horrendous!...how we remember it is a different thing and a different issue...i wont scrap xams but i reflect on its significance...maybe for once in a year we can have a constant reminder of the work of redemption and not just when a disaster strike.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
I got this from a friend and will like to share it with you all,

Beloved,
I cannot afford not to send this letter, which was forwarded to me last week by a son of the cross. I have therefore shelved this week’s original edition for this lovely letter as directed by the Spirit of the Most High. It is simply called “A letter from Jesus.” Read and be blessed.

“As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday. Every year there is
a celebration in my honor and I think that this year the celebration will be
repeated.

During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many
radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone
is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer.

It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think
of me. As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago.
At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for
them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the
celebration.

Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don't know
the meaning of the celebration. I remember that last
year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of
delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and
chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many
beautifully wrapped gifts.

But, do you want to know something? I wasn't invited.

I was the guest of honor and they didn't remember to send me an invitation.

The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they
closed the door in my face .. and I wanted to be
with them and share their table.

In truth, that didn't surprise me because in the last few years all close
their doors to me. Since I wasn't invited, I decided to
enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner.

They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and
laughing at everything. They were having a grand time.

To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white
beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho! He seemed drunk. He sat on the
sofa and all the children ran to him, saying: "Santa Claus, Santa Claus" as
if the party were in his honor!

At midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms
waiting for someone to hug me and do you know no-one hugged me.

Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with
great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe,
there was one for me. What would you feel if on your birthday everybody
shared gifts and you did not get one?

I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left.

Every year it gets worse. People only remember the gifts, the parties, to
eat and drink, and nobody remembers me.

I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life.

I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago
I came to this world to give my life for you, on the
cross, to save you.

Today, I only want that you believe this with all your heart.

I want to share something with you. As many didn't invite me to their party,
I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party
that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I'm still making the
final arrangements..

Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you.
I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you
and write your name with golden letters in my great guest book.

Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party. Those who don't answer the invitation, will be left outside. Be prepared because
when all is ready you will be part of my great party.

See you soon. I Love you!
Jesus”
Beloved, have you invited Jesus into your life and into your home? He is still waiting patiently for you as you prepare for another Christmas in celebration of His Birthday. If you do, then you shall also be part of the Heavenly Feast that He is preparing for all of us. Blessings of His grace in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Merry Christmas!

Lauryn are u telling me u dont know the real face of Jesus Christ our Personal Saviour?
Re: What is Christmas? by Z4M4eva(f): 11:51am On Dec 13, 2005
@ Bishop4u, I think Lauryn is doubting the pic because, no one has ever seen Jesus and what he looks like, the pics of Jesus people show might not really be how he looks like, no one knows what and how he looks like, because no one has seen Jesus.
So I think thats what she means by "is that really Him?"

the gospel account indicates that jesus was born before winter season,luke2:28 sheep were never in the field by night in palestine after the third wekk of october.the 25th of december was chosen to counter a pagan festival connected with winter solstice so christmas is man made not biblical

Tricia,Luke 2: 28 reads: Then he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said;

Do you want to rephrase your bible verse so we can talk about this "winter solstice" more?
