Too much scandals with KPMG these days. I wish they could have more competition amongst Accounting firms like law firms have. Too much hype.

I wish we could have Nigerian graduates think more like entrepreneurs than aspire to work for these guys. Wish we could have some two or three accounting guru's that is tech-savvy. Thinking outside the box and creating a start-up that will challenge the industry.

I wish Nigeria can be employers as well. Hopefully, God wil take us there

Most of the people working in KPMG and other top audit firms have plans to work on their own. The exposure and experience you get from working in such places would go a long way to help an individual when he or she decides to practice privately.

...started their own...

It is not easy to leave the firms after you gain experience and do well outside them.

They have contracted the whole country company, they have become monopoly that can not be broken. This is not a law firm but accounting firm where the ethics or codes of conduct do not allow you to carry out your professional duty in a company where you have relations.

All the companies have being contracted among the tops accounting firms, and you can not audit in your dad's company. Because ethics do not accept that exept as INTERNAL AUDITOR. You either stay with them or you don't practice.

The accounting firms are so strong that they close door for new competitors. Below are some of the reason why there may not be new firms to compete with these big ones.

1. Upgrading of Accoung Code: The big accounting firms play the front roles in upgrading of accounting ethics, practice, rules and regulation

2. Outside Profession Relations: The big accounting firms create off business relationship with chairmen/women, Directors of the companies they work with. Like being members of same club, church, attend same occasions...

3. Purshase of Young Talented Graduate: The big accounting firms have bought the few talented accounting graduates that can challenge them in the future, those who may have the prerequisite to challenge them in nearest future have been bought with that, they have reduced the chance of being challenged in the nearest future.

4. Good pay: their remunerations are good enough. They pay well, they train well, future financial security guaranteed so, it is very slim for anyone to wish to go out to start his own that may run down as early as he starts.

5. Unethical Secrets: many of these companies have committed a lot of financial crimes, they are still committing more, all of these crimes are hidden under the power of the big audit firms. These must not be exposed and this gives the audit firms chance to remain on top of their games. No chance for strangers.

6. Business Organisations: many of the big accounting firms are conglomerates. They are international, they have international backup, they are not partnership businesses but Limited Liability Companies, So, which new partnership firm wants to compete with them?

7. Size of Market: How many company audits their account in this country? How many company do we have? I have approached many small companies to help them to prepare their accounts and give them financial advice base on the founding they said no. And these are businesses that do not have complete record. Can those who can not call service of an accountant call services of auditor? No.

8. Constitutions: Nigeria constitution is a failure in the sense that it makes it mandatry for only PLCs to audit and publish their accounts once in a year while LIMITED even as we have seen many of them bigger than some PLCs not mandated to audit their accounts.

9. Infant Industry: I see accounting profession as infant industry but highly needed industry. The only few toping the ladder are the ones making more then 90% of the market. All the new firms there striving ended up closing firms and start new business or gain employment or remain jobless.

10. Training: acquisition of skill to become chartered accountant is tedious. It requires money and time. After four years in university some people may find it hard to be struggling with ICAN for more than two years if care is not taking.

11. Demand for Chartered Accountants: the millennial companies employ chartered accountants into various posts in the country, in banking sectors, oil, insurance, beverage... etc this has resulted to many of them not practicing.

12. Demand for Chartered Accountants as Internal Auditors: to be an internal Auditor you don't have to be a chartered accountant, B.sc, HND, M.sc, AAT, PE 1etc should be good enough but millennial businesses employe chartered accountants to do the job.

13. At this stage, I am tired.
