Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Portugal's squad for the Confederations Cup.

On Thursday, May 25th, the coach, Fernando Santos named his 24-man squad for a friendly with Cyprus, World Cup qualifier against Latvia and the confederation Cup in Russia.

Nani, Ricardo Quaresma, Joao Moutinho, Pepe, Bruno Alves and Rui Patricio were among the experienced players to be called up by the coach.

Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, Inter's Joao Mario and Monaco star Bernardo Silva are other big names included who made cut.

However, Bayern Munich midfielder Sanches – Young Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016 – and striker Eder, who scored the winner against France in the final, were left out, while Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes was missing out for personal reasons.

Sanches, who only started six Bundesliga matches will instead play in the European Under-21 championship in Poland.

The Confederations Cup begins on June 17, and the final on July 2 .

Portugal are in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Mexico and New Zealand.
Germany are in Group B with Cameroon, Chile and Australia.

It is understood that the squad, which includes uncapped Porto goalkeeper Jose Sa, will be cut down to 23 for the Confederations Cup.

Goalkeepers: Beto (Sporting CP), Jose Sa (Porto), Rui Patricio (Sporting)

Defenders: Bruno Alves (Cagliari), Cedric (Southampton), Eliseu (Benfica), Jose Fonte (West Ham), Luis Neto (Zenit), Nelson Semedo (Benfica), Pepe (Real Madrid), Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund)

Midfielders: Adrien Silva (Sporting CP), Andre Gomes (Barcelona), Danilo Pereira (Porto), Joao Mario (Inter), Joao Moutinho (Monaco), Pizzi (Benfica) and William Carvalho (Sporting CP)

Forwards: Andre Silva (Porto), Bernardo Silva (Monaco), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Gelson Martins (Sporting), Nani (Valencia) and Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas).
