Should Religion Evolve With The Times? by Afam4eva(m): 12:14pm On Jun 02, 2017
I was watching a program "Your View" on TVC this morning and they invited an islamic scholar to come and talk about the importance and etiquette of Ramadan. So along the line, an Islamic song was played and it was very different from the typical islamic songs. The musician actually used the beats of Kiss Daniels' song "WOJU" and then used islamic lyrics. The presenters who were mostly Christians were dancing at the song but one particular presenter who was a muslim felt the song was inappropriate because according to her, it doesn't have the ISlamic essence. I really don't know what that means. Now her fellow hosts challenged her that the reason why youths are converting from Islam to Christianity is because they find Christianity much more funky and in tune with the times.

We can all agree that there are more Muslims converting to Christianity than vice versa especially in Nigeria. And it's not necessarily because they think Christianity is the way but because they think it's more liberal and open than Islam. For instance, i want to believe Christ Embassy has more percentage of youths than any church in NIgeria and this is because they allow youths to express themselves to the extent that it become borderline weird the kind of things they do in the church.

Now to my question, should Religion evolve to accommodate modern idiosyncrasies? Do mosques or churches need to be more yuppy to attract youths? Is religion a brand that needs to appeal to every strata of the society? What do you think.

of course religion should evolve and religion has been evolving Btw. One of the major causes of Morden terrorism is the fact that some people refused to change with the times and at the same time try to force others to be like them.An example of this is a Muslim sister on Twitter who tried to kill the ambition of another to be adamawa state governor because of prophet Mohamed 's 7th century opinion which states that a country lead by a women is bound fail, while forgetting the fact that our dearest "male" president left his own country to get the best healthcare in a country lead by women.
and the fact that women had also successfully lead societies renders the 7th century opinion null and void.

I understand what you're saying. But if the holy book says you should not do a particular thing, are saying that because we're in 2017, we can disobey that law? The bible and Quoran are not supposed to change irrespective of the times.

The bible and Koran were written during the period of ignorance and they display alot of ignorance therein. Every religion must evolve with time or die out. Take a look at christianity and see how much it has evolved. Islam will red to evolve or it will die off. Modern advancement will make people know that islam is false if it doesn't evolve.

yes. people have been picking and choosing from the holy books. bible says women should not teach in church yet we have women pastors. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Mauritania have had women leaders despite Mohamed 's opinion which is not even from the Quran ( the so called "literal word of god" )but from their so called authentic hadith.

The question of whether the hadith is for all times like the qu'ran is left for a Muslim to answer sha.

Lets start with this: some verses in the bible should be deleted:

the world being flat (2 Samuel 22:16, Job 38:4, Psalm 18:15, Proverbs 8:29, Isaiah 24:18)

The talking donkey (Numbers 22:25)

Stars being smaller than the earth and falling inside the earth (Rev 6:13)

Noah’s flood, 6 days creation account, men sleeping with angels/demons:

Truth is, religion has been demystified by contemporary times. Holding the old practices/believes and trying to integrate it into modern times is dead-on-arrival!
