God blesses his children for certain reasons. He never makes mistakes, because He is a careful planner. In Malachi 3:10, God promised to pour an overflow of blessings upon His faithful children. But why? He has a purpose for the extras. Many believers today are yet to recognize the purpose of God's blessing upon their lives. Some think that the good jobs they have are solely to benefit them and their immediate family. That is far from the truth. And as long as you fail to recognize God's purpose in giving you a job and blessing you financially, materially, intellectually and spiritually, you will surely abuse the privilege. Have you ever asked God, you will get to know why.
Esther, a Jewish slave girl was brought with others to the plaace at Shushan, through God's favour was selected as one of the candidates for queen when Vashti's position became vacant through disobedience. God allowed Esther to win that contest. But years later, persecution arose against God's people who were still slaves in the land. Initially Esther was silent and was on the verge of losing all her people. But her uncle reminded her that God had most probably made her queen to save the lives of the Jews. She rose up and fulfilled God's purpose.
When the Israelites were leaving Egypt after spending over 400 years in slavery, God gave them special favour, to empty Egypt of all her gold and jewelery. This was partly to restore to Israel years of working without pay. But more than this, it was to give them the materials they needed much later to build the temple. Their ignorance led them to make the golden calf.
God has blessed you in one or more area. It could be to help others or to support the work of God. Whatever your purpose, find and fulfil it. Otherwise, like Vasthi, you will be replaced by somebody who will.

Vashti was not disobedient neither was Esther perfect. Events played out that way because God had to fulfill a purpose and he chose Esther. What did Jesus say about the man who was born blind? You and I would have said his parents sinned or someone in his lineage cursed him but No! It was simply that through His blindness men may come to learn about the potency of miracles.

If your husband in his drunken state asked you to display your beauty, would you? Any Christian woman may not obey because 1. His request is lame 2. His directive is not "in the Lord". Should he even be drinking in the first instance let alone have the audacity to rub it in.

The order that saw Vashti out of her seat was a grave discrimination against women. The King in his alcohol-free state saw the folly of his actions and was going to go back on his words but just like men still do today they felt it wasn't manly, they felt their wives will become disrespectful on account of that so they pushed him to stick by it.

Esther wasn't perfect but she was chosen above Vashti which is the only reason she succeeded. As a Christian, will you allow your sister enter into a beauty contest where Obasanjo for instance has to have sex with the contestants before making a choice. I'm not a theologian but the phrase used in the Bible passage is indicative of the King having sex with Esther. What if the King had chosen someone else? What about other girls that were not chosen by the King?

Esther was chosen simply because she was favored by God. She was on a mission. Some actions are wrong but if ordained and directed by God it carries a special status. We celebrate Ruth, a woman who was encouraged to "uncover" a married man's skirt? We condemn single parenthood, yet Mary, an unmarried woman was chosen to have the supernatural birth.

God's hand in any situation brings a turn around.
