Infact, if it were so, the Oba of Benin would have laid out such claim openly as the works of his predecessor-kings are recordid in his Palace. So I doubt the viability of your claims. Igbo people never had empire neither were they ever subjugated under any foreign authority other than the Brits'.
They simply were perfectly Republics. Living in autonomous, independent communities. Benin emperors never ever made attempts to conquer the entire Southern lands, down the SE and SS. It was never recorded.
