The Governor of Nasarawa, Umaru Al-Makura, has directed the demolished Breeze 99.9 FM to pay fine; after the state government was asked to compensate the station. “The matter is already concluded; compensation will not be paid over government’s action,” the governor said, in Lafia on Tuesday while he was distributing relief materials to 50 communities hit by various crises, NAN reports. He said that government had directed the Nasarawa Urban Development Board (NUDB) to fine the radio station for violating approved land laws. The NUDB demolished the station on May 12, 2017, citing violation of approved laws. According to commissioner of information, Abdulhamid Kwarra, explained tha the station had to be demolished action in order to protect people living in the neighbourhood against radioactive materials from the station’s mast. The station has threatened to go to court to challenge the action which it said was a reaction to its insistence on reporting the ongoing workers strike. In reaction, Al Makura said, “Nasarawa government will not pay any compensation as is being suggested in some quarters. It is the management of Breeze FM that will pay a fine for violating laid down rules. “You cannot have a radio station where you have a restaurant, a business centre and a prayer centre. It does not happen anywhere,”he said. “All houses built on wrong sites, which have not adhered to development regulations, will be destroyed whether they be residences, factories or radio stations. “People must learn to comply and abide by rules and regulations,” he said. “After the notices, their structures will definitely go down the way Breeze FM went. “So, I want to use this opportunity to call on people to please abide by the rules and regulations.” http://thenigerian.news/news/al-makura-fines-demolished-radio-station-says-wont-pay-compensation/

Which scientific study has told this govt that radio waves or signals are radioactive? Last year, Gov Ortom of Benue state imposed a fine on all standby generator operators, saying the monies will be utilized to "repair the earth's Ozone layer".. Since when have welfare of citizens become a pressing concern for these selfish heartless govs who habitually refuse to pay their workers for months? Almakura's actions stinks of political vendetta borne out of a habitual predilection for abuse of power. 13 Likes |

While you are distributing relief materials on one hand ,you are using the other hand to make some other people jobless . in saner climes the govt liaise with the company that employs labour by suggesting other readily available land areas they can continue their business. the opposite is the case here and we continue to go round and round yet praying everyday for things to change. when he commissioned the station he was hoping they would be sentimental in their reportage but instead they chose objectivity and that led to this demolition. I wonder when Nigeria will grow out of this kinda politics or stupidity 7 Likes 2 Shares

SmartyPants: Your comment has isolated you as a victim of incomplete education. Radio waves are different from microwaves which are utilized by cellular phone networks. Because you saw the term "radioactive", you think it has to do with radio....... Bushman 4 Likes |
