THE LUCKY ONE
"Thump, thump, thump"
There it goes again.
My heart, beating hard in my chest like it has for the past ten minutes.
"Why is it taking so long?"
"Thump, Thump, Thump"
My hands are getting clammy so I tried to wipe them off on my cloth but it's not working, seems like a water-work broke in my body system or something .
"Thump, thump, thump"
If my heart continues to beat fast at this rate, I might die or something.
"Why do I keep saying 'or something?' Whatever, who cares?"
I can't believe what started as a joke will turn out to be real or not, hopefully in a few minutes.
I can't believe I got called here.
"Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump"
Five minutes left to get the result and know what luck fate will bring me this time.
Five minutes left to know who will be picked between the two of us left here.
I started rubbing my hands together and at the same time trying to stop my leg from shaking, I might fall off the chair if it continues like this but I'm so nervous.
I checked the time, only 3 minutes has passed.
"What the heck??" it feels like forever
"Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump"
My heartbeat increased by the minute.
Just a minute left to get the result.
"Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump"
I feel like it's my lucky day, but the worst always happens to me.
"Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump"
"Will fate be on my side this time??" I only have five seconds to know.
I started counting...
5
4
3
2
1
The door opened...
A huge man stepped out, he opened his mouth and said...
"Donald Henry, come in please"
Everything stopped right before my eyes, my heart did too.
"Damn" Well, there goes my luck, dejected, and with a heavy and loud sigh, I stood up..
Well, it's my fault anyway, I should not have done it, I guess it's my fate and bad luck that keeps pushing me to do things.
"Why do they have to call my name, Donald Henry..
"Wait, what? .. Donald Henry? That's not my name"
The guy beside me stood up, he glared at me and walked in, I guess he got scared at the last minute.
I heaved a sigh of relief as I slumped on the chair.
"I wasn't picked.
"I wasn't picked for the army."
"I'm not going to die soon." I said to myself repeatedly.
A smile broke out of my face, I stood up and walked out, whistling.
I can't believe I actually got lucky.
