You have to agree with the elders. Nigeria's last authentic constitution is the 1963 constitution. All the other ones ever since are military decrees forced on the Nigerian people.

THE Rivers Elders and Leaders’ Council has stated that to ensure proper restructuring, unity and peaceful co-existence, Nigeria must return to the 1963 Constitution. They also kicked against the inclusion of Rivers State by agitators in the Southeast in the proposed Biafra Republic, declaring that it would never happen, in view of Rivers people’s unpleasant experiences during the civil war, between 1967 and 1970.

The Rivers elders and leaders, through their Chairman, and the pioneer Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Chief Albert Horsfall, stated this on Thursday in Port Harcourt, while briefing reporters at the end of their meeting. He said: “Our position is 1963 Nigeria. In 1960, we had Independence Constitution. In 1963, it was turned into law, as a Republican Constitution. We want a return to that situation.

“Biafra has no place whatsoever in Rivers State. Rivers State belongs to Rivers people. The first experience with the place called Biafra, being Ojukwu’s Republic of Biafra, was such an agony for Rivers people, that they do not wish any reference or return to Biafra anymore, ever again.”

Rivers elders and leaders also asked the state governor, Nyesom Wike, to frontally tackle insecurity in the state, and ensure the safety of lives and property. “We intend to send a letter to the Rivers State government, drawing attention to the insecurity in the State) and the consequences thereof. “It is in everybody’s interest that we have security in Rivers State. For the government’s economic policy to work, there has to be security.”

Lol! Sounds pleasant to the ear!

The question here is; Is our leaders/Nigerians ready to embrace the 1963 constitution amendment

Now ponder over it...

In the minds of an average Nigerian we're moving forwards even when the roads isn't getting any smoother - We're content with the little comforts we find

I want to hear from the Rivers youth, not these elders.

It will be the youth who will have to live with the consequences of the actions of their elders.

It is disheartening that the useless constitution forced on us by the corrupt military is what we're still using till date. A constitution that favours only Hausa Fulani Muslims.

All the military govts since the first have been illegal, same with the constitutions they produced

The Supreme Court can nullify the present constitution and return Nigeria to her last authentic constitution, the 1963 constitution

BUT WHO WILL APPROACH THE SUPREME COURT TO ADJUDICATE ON THIS?

Rivers state at that time was in the eastern region not biafra land. As a matter of fact, there was neither biafra land nor rivers state at that time.

People truncated a system that worked. Carried out a coup and killed leaders associated with that system.

Same set asking for a reversal to the system they once dismantled.

There is a lawsuit that was filed in court by Wole Soyinka, Ojukwu and some other eminent persons years ago challenging the validity of the 1999 constitution. I dont know how far with the case.

getting Biafra is a possibility but returning Nigeria to the 1963 constitution is almost impossible, the north would never give up power except through an internationally monitored referendum. have anybody else noticed that the likes of ngige, tinubu, fashola etc are not agitating for restructuring? it's because they know the truth.

That case needs to be instituted afresh ..

The 1963 constitution will solve the present quagmire. It has provisions for referendum. That's how Mid-West region came about; there was no Mid-West at independence

if Nigeria want to dabaru, they should be my guest.... country that lacks sense....as for me i have stopped praying for this country a long time ago instead i use that remaining strength to pray for myself and my family...they said we are the futures of tomorrow yet they dont want to give the youth any space to take over....we have a sick and unfit president who needs to step down and concentrate on his health but Greed wont allow him do that...yet his presidential jet gulps up to #80m per month just been idle at the united-kingdom airport...

And what is special about 1963?
You might as well return to 1960 or 1967.
